Lots of lively discussions here with many interesting points made. I love Barbara's thought about creative people on the sinking boat and how we all have to hang together until we reach the dock. That about sums it up for me! Catherine mentioned how we often have to hide our love for Joni's music and that really struck home for me the other day when an old friend just blurted out that, sorry, he never liked or "got" Joni's music - but he did "like her boyfriends' music." Hahaha! It is true - I have maybe 2-3 friends outside the group here who appreciate and love her like we do and am always hesitant to bring her up with anyone else. I think there were some periods of time here long ago where the atmosphere of musical discussion could be a bit rarified and snobby. But then others, including Bob, came along and made it O.K. to talk about other diverse artists and music and that really helped open up the discussion to checking out new artists and music and revisiting music that may have been previously ignored or dismissed. I recall Bob and some of us proudly taking up the label of "music slut" at some point. And this all led to us now being not embarrassed to sing Monkees songs alongside Joni's most complex and intricate works at Jonifests. .I may always be hesitant to talk Joni on the "outside" but can feel happily free to say I still love the music of Pablo Cruise here and at least someone may agree and cite their fave songs of his. It is all good.;-) Kakki ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 1 Nov 2013 01:42:58 -0500 From: Michael Paz Subject: Re: Music snobs and sluts HAHHAHA.
