Even when I think what she says has some merit, there are times I wish she'd exercise a bit of tact. Calling Leonard Cohen a "boudoir poet" (maybe he is - who am I to say?) kind of sets my teeth on edge. Just putting that out there. I know many of us also admire her (sometimes) plain talking, but there's duality for ya! For some reason I often hear her "Winter Lady" song sung in Gordon Lightfoot's voice and, no, I'm not confusing it with his "Song for a winter's night." I'd like to do my finest impression of Gord singing it, but I'm afraid it wouldn't sound like him nearly as much as I hope it would. Perhaps if there's another Joni fest that I can make it to. >________________________________ > From: "TheStaff@JoniMitchell.com" >To: joni@smoe.org >Sent: Tuesday, October 22, 2013 1:24:21 PM >Subject: New Library item: The Resonance Of Joni Mitchellbs "Wizard of Is" With Leonard Cohenbs "Suzanne" > > >Title: The Resonance Of Joni Mitchellbs "Wizard of Is" With Leonard Cohenbs "Suzanne" >Publication: 1heckofaguy.com/ >Date: 2013.10.21 > >http://jonimitchell.com/library/view.cfm?id=2704 ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Oct 2013 15:00:29 +0000 From: "Susan E. If she wrote it for Gordon Lightfoot to sing, I doubt he would have picked it up since he had no trouble writing his own songs to sing. I really love Winter Lady and sang it at Pazfest ... I think it's fine for a woman to sing it to a woman if they so choose ... :-) another example of Joni's genderless songwriting style. Anyway, I'm working on a new batch of Joni Mitchell guitar arrangements and the first one is (finally) done! This one is "Court and Spark," which I promised about three months ago. Well, life got in the way and although I had the arrangement completed (thanks, Dave Blackburn and Sue Tierney McNamara for the advice!), I just hadn't gotten it filmed and "ready to go." But here it is for all of you guys to enjoy. Please let me know what you think: http://youtu.be/GT4kcTgmGMM. Soon I'll have tabs posted on the JM.com page. By the way, I've also been busy completing an album of my guitar arrangements and thought you may be interested to hear it. It's called "Rich Exchanges" (Catch the Joni-ism?) and it's a collection of my own solo guitar arrangements of Beatles, Bob Dylan, and Joni tunes as well as two original compositions. It's available for FREE to stream and download at: http://samstone.bandcamp.com . I hope you guys enjoy it!
