Several listers have made comments like the one above about how Laura Nyro would have been a better fit with Carole King and Joni Mitchell for "Girls Like Us" than Carly Simon, but none of them gave any reasons for this belief. I will try to articulate it. Carly came from a wealthy family and was a performer )with her sisters) long before she was a songwriter. Like Carole King and Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro came from a more modest background and was writing songs performed by otherrs before she became a performer herself. Anyone else have any other thoughts on this? Paul Ivice ;>) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Sep 2013 16:39:38 +0000 From: "Susan E. They're also called "pink nuns" because the colour of their habit is pink. Barbie-doll pink! But they're one of those cloistered groups so not sure if it makes sense that Joni would have met one. They've been around since the late 1800s and they do have a few convents in the US. http://www.adorationsisters.org/history.html On 2013-09-28, at 12:50 PM, McKay Catherine wrote: > When I don't know the answers to things, I make them up. The Mutts' Hejira show is upcoming on Nov 9th and these charts were done in preparation for that. Some of them are in Joni's tunings and a few are in my own tunings. Try 'em out pickers! Well, it'll never be rubbish to me...shortly after joining the JMDL, my son (who was about 13 at the time) bought me the book with his allowance money as a gift and he wrote a nice note in it. It's pure treasure to me if only for that reason. While it is filled with a lot of bad information, it does contain an appendix about Joni bootlegs and covers, two subjects near and dear to my Joni heart.
