Susan Tierney McNamara wrote: Bob = way more than 500 covers. :-) Bob Muller wrote: Yes, they were a bit low with that number. Not a bad little clip, but I'd hate to have to sum up Joni's career in 3 minutes. They didn't say 500 covers; they said 500 artists have covered her work. That means Tom Rush and Judy Collins, for example, only count once each, though they have coverred more than one song, and their definition of "artists" probably means ASCAP members or some other similar professional designation. Under those parameters, I'm guessing 500 is closer than you'd suggested. A little heads up: I'll be recording a new record of all Joni material hopefully before the end of this year. Even though I wanted to keep it a surprise, I thought a "teaser" might be fun. Here's the list of songs we're planning on recording and we're not sure which ones will make it to the recording, it depends on which ones turn out the best! California River Marcie I Don't Know Where I Stand Black Crow Barrangrill Both Sides Now Rainy Night House People's Parties Hissing of Summer Lawns Down to You Woman of Heart and Mind This Flight Tonight and possibly two or three others The hardest part is picking the ones we will end up putting on the recording but we have gorgeous arrangements for all of the above! It's interesting that so many people are doing "Joni" records right now. We've had this in the "lab" for over a year, well before these other Joni recordings started hitting the street. We've performed this material at SFJAZZ to two sold out shows, Yoshi's and at The Jazzschool where I'm the Director of the Vocal Program. We're going to try and hold ourselves back and not perform any more until the CD Release (the band is loving this new material) but, just wanted to add our latest to the "list" you just posted. Would those of you on this list like to be included in our announcements and fundraising blurbs? Please let me know if it's presumptuous to use this forum to let you know about this. In the meantime, I'm totally enjoying reading all these posts. Joni was and has been, for over 30 years, the inspiration that has led to a life in music.
