Each of her songs are a complete story, lyrically and sonically, from beginning to end. I love listening to the old tapes because she does these little vaudeville skits about how she comes to write the songs and then the audience sits slack jawed while she sings jewels like I Had A King, Eastern Rain, Urge for Going. Lately I've been playing I Don't Know Where I Stand and Michael from Mountains. They are like concertos for oboe. I should probably get a dulcimer. I've been thinking about it all year!!! :-) Susan Tierney McNamara email: sem8@cornell.edu - -----Original Message----- From: jlhommedieu@insight.rr.com [mailto:jlhommedieu@insight.rr.com] Sent: Monday, August 26, 2013 11:24 PM To: Susan E. It looks like he is still in those old dire straits while he is healing. Recently someone posted that old favorite graphic which said: "WWJD - What Would Joni Do?" and it really made me think... "Status Update By John van Tiel Just to let you all know that I am back on line again. Due to the consequences of my stroke ( work almost gone) I have no more money and consequently can't pay my bills. My Internet was cut off (as was my tvby the provider. I have been off-lne for 4 weeks except for a few visits to WiFi spots in town) so if I have not reacted to e-mails, please understand. Due yo a late payment of a work bill I was able to settle the score, but as I have not been able to get work by email or otherwise I am dreading next month (food?)... The good news: I had to be checked by a neurologist for my driving license and he thought I coud go on for a test and get my license back for 5 years. Trouble is, my car needs to be cheched first - it has not been used for 19 months... the money issue again!" ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 24 Aug 2013 10:21:52 -0600 From: Lori Renee Fye Subject: Re: Joni on Transgender Folk I would say that I saw anything resembling "hate" here, but perhaps insensitivity ... unintentional, really, but we're smart people and we usually think ahead. There was nothing hurtful said in any of those posts, nothing demeaning said towards transgender people, period. It's called parody which involves having a sense of humor. If you didn't find it funny that's perfectly okay but I think it's sad that an attempt at poking fun into something that is very much in the public eye (and therefore completely fair game for parody) has to be misconstrued into something hateful. I have transgendered friends as well but that's not really the issue. The point it is, if you're looking for "hate" there was none, end of story. You're directing your anger to the wrong place.
