In both cases we're talking about mp3.audio files, AND the CBC didn't even use the Highest available Bit Rate (320 kbps). - - - - - - A good friend of mine recorded the CBC FM Radio Broadcasts. His recordings are clearly superior to the mp3 WebCast, and were UpLoaded yesterday. I love this series of performances she did to promote Turbulent Indigo. It's her guitar playing at its peak before the VG8 moved in. Listening to the mutes, slaps and harmonics and even how she tunes and re-tunes the guitar ... all this stuff gets me giddy! :-) > > Susan Tierney McNamara > email: sem8@cornell.edu > > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-joni@smoe.org [mailto:owner-joni@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Mark > Sent: Thursday, August 01, 2013 10:32 PM > To: simon@icu.com; joni@smoe.org > Cc: Les Irvin; Laura Oppermann > Subject: Re: Reprise Music Show - Wells Fargo Theater, Pt.2 > > This particular show has very special associations for me. I recorded it myself on a cassette tape from a local broadcast and played it over and over again. I'm listening to this wonderful recording that Simon has gifted to us and I have never heard it sound so good. Thank you, Simon and Dave, from the bottom of my heart for making this available. > > Mark in Seattle > > -----Original Message----- > From: simon@icu.com > Sent: Thursday, August 01, 2013 1:41 PM > To: joni@smoe.org > Cc: Les Irvin ; Laura Oppermann > Subject: Reprise Music Show - Wells Fargo Theater, Pt.2 > > On Jan. 26, 1995 the following Joni Mitchell concert was broadcast nationally. > > JONI MITCHELL REPRISE MUSIC SHOW > Wells Fargo Theater > Autry Museum of Western Heritage > Los Angeles, Ca. > Jan. 26, 1995 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Aug 2013 05:27:49 -0700 From: Betsy Blue Subject: Re: Changing the words For Free I love the 1983 addition to For Free. It sounds so natural that it's hard to believe Joni wrote it. I mean that it sounds like something that's always existed. Was it based off something familiar, or is she just good at writing songs? Haha. Anyway, she changed For Free pretty often: Going off memory here, by 1974, she had "the LA Express and their wives" and in 1976 she sang about her "manager and road manager and light crew and sound crew, a couple of truck drivers, and a rigger" as if it was just out of control. - -Betsy Jamie wrote > > Playing like a falling angel > Playing like a rising star > Playing for a hat full of nothing > To the honking of the cars > > The refuge of the roads tour is on dvd. Besides the impeccable sound quality, she's in GREAT spirits and it's a show that she seems to be TRULY enjoying. It's an intimate setting and the audience is just as into it as she is. She is so much more successful with these intimate settings - it's a shame her '98 tour was with Dylan in Arenas and stadiums. She would have enjoyed a smaller concert hall tour so much more. I wonder if part of that isn't her ego getting in the way.
