I posted them along with all the CBC bonus tracks right here: http://depositfiles.com/files/ h9jaiqvwk. It's one ZIP file (about 300MB) and has all the audio you'll need until they finally broadcast the complete concert (which probably won't happen...) The first two discs have turned up at bigozine2.com with this nice artwork: http://www.bigozine2.com/MP3AA/MP313/JMtoronto/JMtoronto.pdfbut it doesn't contain the bonus discs. There are museums and museum exhibitions funded that way. They might benefit from some outside funding. I have written to Sirius XM to urge them to establish a Joni Mitchell channel in November. They have channels for various artists (Dylan, Rolling Stones, Springsteen) at times. It would be timely to honor her that way. If I get anything other than a computer-generated response, I'll let the list know. For any who missed the kind and thoughtful sharing of the Luminato concert songs, the very odd bootleg site ROIO has just posted it online: http://bigozine2.com/roio/?p=1514 I found this site through the Leonard Cohen fan website and it is interesting. If nothing else, it has a decent CD cover for the concert. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Jul 2013 17:46:12 -0400 From: Sam Stone Subject: New guitar tabs and videos available in the Archive Hi JMDLers, These have already made the rounds on Facebook, but I figured I should let everyone else know. Anyway, I've been hard at work constructing guitar arrangements, mainly for the songs that are more piano-centric. Of the five or six on my list, two are done: "River" and "Chinese Cafe." "River" is one that I have been perfecting on and off since 2010. I even sent a "prototype" to JMDL back then. It's basically a jazzy guitar arrangement of Joni's classic "River," with the harmonies and overall "feel" closer to Herbie Hancock's version from 2007. The tuning is A#FA#GA#D and I am proud to day that tabs for my arrangement are available on the official Joni Mitchell website! The video is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtNlspvp83k and the tabs are here: http://jonimitchell.com/music/transcription.cfm?id=493 "Chinese Cafe" follows the same idea. Even though I'm not a fan of Joni's synthy stuff, I've always enjoyed this song and have wanted to make a guitar arrangement for a while. This one just came to me one night. I'd been looking at the chords, in standard tuning as written in "Joni Mitchell Complete" and started to work it out in DAEGCE. Didn't quite work so I fiddled with the knobs and magically ended up in good old CGDFCE and that did the trick. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the tuning used on the original. Also, I'm told this is the first time anyone's tried to transcribe this song in an altered tuning! The video can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F70jDfeQauI and the tabs are located at http://jonimitchell.com/music/transcription.cfm?id=493 Next up: "All I Want," "Court and Spark," and maybe "Rainy Night House"... Hope you enjoy these! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Jul 2013 21:16:23 -0400 From: Sam Stone Subject: Re: New guitar tabs and videos available in the Archive Thanks for the kind words, Michael. Rest assured that there IS a younger generation of Joni fans. And I think that demographic is growing. I've known so many people who, with their ears accustomed to the "look-how-fast-I-can-play-a-minor-scale" kind of guitarists, don't initially understand Joni's stuff or my fascination with it. When I play some examples, they get it! On Sun, Jul 21, 2013 at 6:26 PM, Michael quebec wrote: > Hey Sam, > > What a treat to see/hear your videos. In 'Amelia' she sings 'like *me*, she had a dream to fly'. Of course 'fly' in that line can quite easily be interpreted as being metaphorical. But I think it is probably both literal and metaphorical although I think Joni's dream is to fly without benefit of an airplane. There is also that lovely photo on the inner sleeve of the original vinyl pressings of 'Hejira' of Joni in the black feathered cap with black draped arms outstretched in imitation of a 'black crow flying' that she likens herself to in the song 'Black Crow'. > > When I was a very young child I remember imagining that I could fly.
