Interesting, Jim - on the JMDL there's no such thing as over-analyzing. Just one small note - Jenny in the song is Furry's neighbor, not his wife. Obviously, when Joni sings "Ol' Furry's got nooobody" she singing it as Furry singing about himself, not as Joni singing about him. I don't believe Joni performed Furry on her '98 tour, though she did lots of Hejira songs on the tour. Seems a bit funny given her affection for it. It wasn't true though. In the song, Furry had a woman, "for his kindness and Furry's beer". In interviews, Furry's wife is always close by. Anyway, Joni thought he was alone. If we believe her interviews, she's not dating anymore. Ol' Joni's got no body. 2. Furry was ill in his old age. He lost a leg along the way. Joni has gone through many health battles too. Maybe I'm over analyzing. Jim L'Hommedieu Columbus, OH, US ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 04 Jul 2013 10:04:25 -0400 From: "Jim L'Hommedieu" Subject: Re: Why Furry now? >Why Furry now?> 1. I don't think you're over-analyzing. I think Joni feels more in common now with Furry, whether it's conscious or subconscious. Maybe she gets him more now that she's probably around the same age he was when she met him. But I also agree with whoever mentioned that she likes doing voice impressions. I noticed she did a lot of that both at the TimeTalk and at the concert. I've always loved the poetry of that song. - ----- Original Message ----- > From: Jim L'Hommedieu > To: JMDL > Cc: > Sent: Thursday, July 4, 2013 10:04:25 AM > Subject: Re: Why Furry now? > >> Why Furry now?> > > 1. She only referred to it as like a "modified strat sound." I was just wondering if anyone knows what the patch was called. Does the VG-99 still have it? Thanks and happy fourth of July to all. - -- Josh ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2013 #260 ********************************* ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here:mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe
