When Steph and I did a big trip around BC two years ago, we visited Victoria and went to the Emily Carr house and gallery in Victoria. It will be most interesting having really enjoyed Carr's paintings (especially of the Haida Gwai) and the very strange story of her life it will be fascinating to see what impact this has had on Joni and this poem. I know being intrigued by Emily Carr having a pet crow and thinking of Black Crow at the time. As for the mention of Ruby Lake, it was lovely to really know that Joni had enjoyed it so much and to think that conversation about cheekbones had gone there is really very cool! Hi Lu - never too late to say "welcome", thanks for coming out of lurkdom and if all goes well I will meet you and Bill in NOLA. Being the covers guru I have heard and enjoyed Bill's 2004 cover of Woodstock. Always an honor to meet someone in the database. Sent by: owner-joni@smoe.org Hi All, Paz is going to freakin' pass out when he sees this post, as I've been a jmdl member since about 1998 or '99 and have never posted. Yes, I am The Ultimate Lurker. :) I've managed to talk my very understanding husband into driving to Toronto for Luminato. We'll probably leave on Monday from Indianapolis. I'm getting a bit nervous because I don't have tickets to the show(s), and am worried that we'll be investing a chunk of time and $, only to left sitting on a curb outside Massey Hall. Boy, I'd NEVER hear the end of that! I'm on digest, so emailing me at rockinwithlu@sbcglobal may be the best way to contact me if you can help out. Also, like Anita, I own one of the Ibanez Joni Guitars that sold in 2003. I have the Sunburst labeled #4, as well as a picture of Paz on my couch playing it a few years ago. Martinis were involved... She's a bird! I wish Jian had let her tell the story of the birds coming to her to die. And the heat of the cigarettes lift her wings. I will hand it to her - she waited an hour before emptying her purse to look for them. Joni was in fine spirits and full of humour. She took a picture of the audience at the end. I have posted pictures to Facebook for anyone who's on it and is my "friend" of the Facebook variety. I tried uploading them to Flickr, but they seem to have disappeared from there, despite my having spent at least half an hour working on naming them. FU, Flickr! Will try again later, but too tired now. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jun 2013 21:26:44 -0700 From: shadows and light Subject: Re: TimesTalks conversation kudos to all of you who are making this accessible to those that can't be there. continuing to be inspired by joni and all of you. lesli On Sun, Jun 16, 2013 at 8:55 PM, Catherine McKay wrote: > Was at the TimesTalks thing tonight, close enough to Joni to inhale her > second-hand smoke.
