Thanks http://nytimes.whsites.net/timestalks/ = the official website of the NYT for those "TimeTalks". They are using www.livestream.com for the broadcast. As for watching on a personal computer (as well as tablet or smartphone, there is NO app), all you need is a browser which can handle Flash video and a fairly fast internet connection. Although livestream begs you to register or login, you don't need that for watching a live stream. You can simply go to the unique stream page and watch. For those who can't watch live, the NYT has its own YT channel here http://www.youtube.com/user/TimesTalks/videos?view=0 where some footage is archived. You can try out a current live stream here http://new.livestream.com/wjla/live - if you can watch that, you can watch any stream there. Most live streams can be watched after the broadcast has ended at the same URL that the live stream was on, so it's possible that someone who cannot watch the Joni broadcast live can still catch up with it later, like for example this one here with Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper: http://new.livestream.com/nytimes/HarveyFiersteinCyndiLauper Any further questions regarding watching a broadcast on your device may be answered here: http://help.livestream.com/customer/portal/topics/347151-viewer-faq/articles. moni k. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 03 Jun 2013 00:55:59 -0700 From: kbhla@fastmail.fm Subject: Les Deux Cafes to re-open in Venice? It's a lovely version and will be included in Volume 184. I'm surprised that these singing shows have not included much Joni to date, perhaps that trend will change. Well, The Voice, Australia has posted their own clip of Celia Pavey performing Woodstock. Celia is only 19 and has the potential to bring about a folk revival in this country. She has open the ears and minds of Australians to the beauty and purity of a good, clean folk song. Her voice is incredible and her love for the genre, comes through. This is an absolute tribute to Joni's work. If you purchase a song on iTunes, it counts as two votes. It reached the top 10 on iTunes. I have sent it to Bob for future inclusion on his covers collections. In the meantime, here's the link for YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glIMgL3XRvw Mark in blustery, rainy Sydney. I'm not a musician, but I could follow along with most of what the author wrote. Very informative and insightful. Thanks, Catherine. I found a couple of items on the web that don't seem to be in the jmdl library or, if they are, I couldn't find them. I haven't read the first one yet. (Saving the best for later, when my eyes are awake.) The first is from a blog called "Play that weird minor chord," which is a good omen in itself. The article was published on March 9, 2013 and is called "The songs of Joni Mitchell". The author calls him/herself G.H.Bone, who says about him/herself, "I live in London. G.H. Bone is a pseudonym." G.H.Bone writes about music, and I'm pretty sure we are going to like this one: http://yuslisten2.wordpress.com/2013/03/09/the-songs-of-joni-mitchell/ The second is a bit of fluff by Ayun Halliday who, at the bottom, says she "wishes she could find the tape of the tape of the Joni Mitchell-James Taylor Unconcert that a friendbs friend taped off of WXRT back in the day." The article, Joni Mitchell: Singer, Songwriter, Artist, Smoking Grandma, is on openculture.com, December 18, 2012 concerning Joni's smoking habit and a bit of a regurgitation of things we've seen before, with a couple of youtube videos. http://www.openculture.com/2012/12/joni_mitchell_singer_songwriter_artist_smo king_grandma.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Jun 2013 09:55:59 -0700 From: "Mark" Subject: Burundi: Music from the Heart of Africa | Nonesuch Records If you care to hear the source of the warrior drums of Burundi that accompany Joni on 'The Jungle Line', here is a link to the Nonesuch site where you can find a re-issue of the record for sale that Joni took it from. The particular piece is track 9, 'Warriors of the Drum'. Someone has probably pointed this out before, but just in case, I thought I'd share it. http://www.nonesuch.com/albums/burundi-music-from-the-heart-of-africa Mark in Seattle ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Jun 2013 10:06:20 -0700 From: Corey Blake Subject: Re: Burundi: Music from the Heart of Africa | Nonesuch Records Thanks, Mark! Sarah McKenzie does a great jazzy BYT. Killer voice and piano. I've listened to this track 3 times this week. I tried to google Chiara Minaldi, and can't find much on her. Not sure if she's Spanish or Italian, but she has a great voice. I love her accent when she sings "Reeeeever" :) The Finnish Anki Linduist, and the Czech Marsys were killer too, but I love the non English Joni songs. I'd have to say my favorite was Jeremy Hopkins from CT (Hi Patti). He has the purest and clear voice on "Sunday, Sunday", and such a soft guitar, I just could listen to this man sing anything. He's fantastic. Thanks again for all you do Mr. Muller.
