(By the way, I have just trademarked the phrase "keyboardy synthy" so if you want to use you'll need to pay me a dollar first. :) The other parts of course definitely are and are magical to my ears. My question was .... in the middle of the song (@5:09 to 5:19 / 5:24) was I hearing an actual instrument or Joni's voice scat-like. Bob and my son, both, say it's some kind of 'keyboardy synthy' sound. (Well, now I owe Bob another $1) Laura ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 May 2013 07:41:50 -0400 From: Bob.Muller@Fluor.com Subject: Re: New Library item: A 'Perceptual' Album From Brian Blade This record is really great. So altho I haven't 'followed' him I am familiar with his name, when it comes up, and the fact that he's a drummer. But that was about the extent of my knowledge. I also just noticed he is the band leader ("direction"), as well as drummer for the upcoming June 2013 Luminato appearance. That prompted me to do some digging and found two articles alerting me to the recently posted YouTube video-sound of the song, Steadfast. Searching also dug up the archives where you & Kakki had a discussion about this way back when......but I never actively looked for the album, nor do I remember the discussion. So this all came as something surprisingly new to me. So, I was very excited to find all this info for the website. I do have a question re: the video........do you believe we are hearing Joni's voice at @5:09 to 5:19 / 5:24? I believe it is her voice (tho my hearing isn't what it used to be). My son thinks it could be electronic. I don't have the album to see if electronic music was used. I know I've been amazed before when what I originally heard as an actual instrument.....turns out to be the instrument of Joni's amazing voice itself (Court and Spark album is a good example of this). What do ya think? Is that actually Joni's voice?? I'm curious Laura This record is really great. I bought a copy when it came out for the Joni bit but love the whole thing. I read the article but am not familiar with the album at all. What a player Brian Blade is, though. I sat down on Friday and, just for fond memories and a good time, watched PWWAM again. I am so impressed every time with Joni's band and Mr Blade is certainly a major contributor with such subtlety and feel. A link to something new for me sounds great! I also wish, like Bob, that Joni would have gone more in that direction on the next album. I also remember the very good Kyle Eastwood album around the same time which featured Joni singing Trouble Man. I found a recording of it on You Tube and, interestingly, it is used as part of a ballet performance in Barcelona! The description is in Catalan but here is a rough translation: "This year we have been working on the choreography for two quarters, more or less since January 2011. The result is what you can see at vmdio. There are two performances we did: the first on the SATS (Sant Andreu Teatre of Barcelona) and the other in L'Hospitalet in the evening students. We have put the two performances for yourselves what you enjoyed most well-organised. We hope that you like, we have devoted a lot of effort and desire and we have all our wishes to leave good avocado." Not sure about the "good avocado" but is all sounds good ;-) The link is not highlighting for me but here is where you can see it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-MKfW95EGY Kakki ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2013 #188 ********************************* ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here:mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe
