What a guy! I have to say I was allowing myself to rock out to Lead Balloon, too :~)) The last few days I have really got in to the overall sound of the VG8 on the album that Mark refers to - the beginning, with 'Harlem in Havana' starts just brilliantly. It's so sleazy. The end with the instrumental mix of the title track I remember fondly at Ruby Lake last year. It was playing as we got up to outdoor auditorium to watch PWWAM when, like Bob those years ago, we got to hang out with Joni for the evening. Yes, it has a unique style, like so many of Joni's albums. And Oddmund, I did catch you saying, "my life looks quite different now compared to that winter. but I could use some comfort now, too. as the great Mary Gauthier put it "we could all need a little mercy, now." I am so pleased that your Life feels better than back then, and I can hear it's not easy for you right now. I am happy in sending my love, a warm blanket and hoping you're managing whatever rocks Life is throwing at you at the moment. And Anita is always brave, I dare too. taming the tiger was extremely important to me in a troubled time. my life was a mess. and i was quite depressed. the album offered me some sort of comfort. as Mark writes the harmonies, for me too, had this soothing effect. it helped me trough the days. so after that winter of 2006, it has always meant something special to me. now Anita was kind to give me a reminder. and I thank her for that. Thank you Anita. my life looks quite different now compared to that winter. but I could use some comfort now, too. as the great Mary Gauthier put it "we could all need a little mercy, now." love oddmund, norway ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 11 May 2013 05:31:43 -0700 (PDT) From: Bob Muller Subject: Re: Re:Taming The Tiger I've got only good things to say about TTT. Another reason this one is so dear to me is that it came out in the fall of '98, about a year or so after I joined this group. It was SO COOL to anticipate it, talk about, hear snippets of it, all that. When it came out, our local paper featured an article about Joni, the album, and had a photo. Wally Breese asked me for a copy which I was happy to send. And of course I saw her and met her the same year. Wow. I bought 3 copies of the CD; 1 for me, 1 for my sister, and 1 for a co-worker that was going through a rough patch. It projected a message to me that helped pull me out of a dark part of my life and find a new facelift. She also did 'Crazy Cries of Love' which at that point was simply 'Love's Cries'. 'No paper thin walls, no folks above, no-one else can hear love's cries'. A couple of wonderful monologues in that show as well. Unlike a lot of our members, I loved 'Taming the Tiger' from the first listen. It has a soothing quality to it, for me, anyway. I'm one of the few who liked the sound of the guitar that Joni programmed the VG-8 to produce throughout most of the recording. 'Stay in Touch' and 'Love Puts on a New Face' are such beautiful songs. Joni in her maturity almost sounding like she had found some contentment at last. It's not one of my favorite albums, but it's still great. As Bob mentioned, it was in '98 when he got to see her in concert and meet her. It was my first Joni concert, and I was already on the list. I did get to meet the first JMDL'r....Pearl Weisberg at the Atlanta concert where many had gathered . I didn't get a chance to meet many on the list, or Joni, but I was the assistant photographer with the late David Mingus to lean up on stage to take pics of Joni, which was on her birthday. "Stay In Touch" is a song that reminds me of the wonderful people that I've met through the years. My first fest was at the first Pazfest in 2000, where I got to meet so many of you and had the best time. I got chills when everyone at the Howling Wolf lit candles in tribute to the late Wally Breese, as "Tiger Bones" played. So yes, TTT is a special album. In the liner notes, she writes a special thanks to "Kilauren and Marlin for being in this world" Happy Weekend!
