Welcome, Babs! >Her words have been wrapped around my brain like butcher's paper for as long as I can remember (since I was 12)... How her words have saved me from so many horrid times I had before. > That's great. She's kept me company through some very dark patches too. >I'd love to mail her my poetry book and a painting but don't think she'd be in the phone book. But she may already get lots of crap sent to her by fans, I'd guess. What do you think?> It's great that you want to share. Many times I feel like she has given me a lot and I feel gratitude for those gifts. Some of her songs are really positive and life-affirming, like "Judgement of the Moon and Stars" for example. I don't have her address. As far as I know, she doesn't have a manager now, so there is no office to go through. If I remember right, there was some stalker, camped out in front of her house for months at a time. That was resolved long ago though. I can not blame her for keeping the location of her home private. Look what happened to John Lennon at The Dakota in NYC. The people who appreciate Joni here, on the JMDL, collaborated on a cookbook. The titles of recipes were funny takeoffs on Joni's song titles. I don't remember how they got the cookbook into her hands though. The official website is not supported by Joni but it's had some contacts through the years. The original webmaster (the late Wally Breese) helped put together Joni and her daughter for the first time. Anyway, I just wanted to say "hi" and "welcome". I looked up your closing salutation (Sholem aleichem) and found that it means "peace be with you. Episcopaleans have a similar greeting. so, aleikhem shalom to you too. Thanks for another great Cover CD, Mr. Muller. Nice little concert from Liz Scatteregood. She sounds very much like Joni, as well as the arrangements for most of the songs. You're spot on "Ogre" being strange. He formed the group Skinny Puppy in Canada, and sounds like he was still on his cocaine addiction when doing his cover of "Black Crow" and "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat". Really horrible. I loved the Canadian country singer, Meg Rose Smith. She does a terrific job on "BSN", the most covered song of Joni's. It still amazes me that even though so many people cover BSN, I grow tired of it, then someone like Meg puts a new spin on it, and it brightens my day. Same goes with the Finish group Vesa Ja Tytot, but as you know I love to hear Joni lyrics in a non English voice. Good ole Freda Payne and Bobby Vee singing BSN was some great cheese. Where the hell did you find that? My favorite has to be Steve Stefanowicz's cover of "River". He truly is the "Human Jukebox". Blind at birth, he has the most beautiful voice and is such a great guitarist. I'd love to have the chance to hear him at a nice small venue. Thanks again Bob for all you do! Jimmy P.S. Thanks too for doing the research that *I* used to do. :-) I actually liked Ogre's take on GPPH, lost of solid musicianship too. Did not know the Skinny Puppy connection. The Freda Payne et al track comes from a Barbara McNair album on Amazon: http://goo.gl/Ecmqe Apparantly it's a bootlegged compilation of duets and other group sings she did from TV. I do remember that Ms. McNair posed for Playboy back in the 60's....thank you Google Images!
