It's like separating People's Parties from Same Situation, I would say. Joni flows seamlessly from one to the other. I often have to hold myself in check when I think about making a snarky comment about bad grammar and spelling in news stories because I usually make a mistake when I'm correcting someone else. Plus, I don't even know why that stuff bothers me as much as it does, but I guess it's because journalists are being paid to write stories, and I expect them to be able to get their "their, there and they'res" right. And it's interesting how many people get snippy and snarky with the anonymity of the internet. I really think people should have to use their real names when they're posting comments on news websites, because it seems to be the same trolls posting over and over again, but that's a different story, because it gets into people's bizarre political comments, trying to bait the "other" side. >________________________________ > From: "Eaton, Shari" >To: JMDL LIST >Sent: Tuesday, March 5, 2013 12:36:25 PM >Subject: Re: Let The Wind Carry Me v Lesson in Survival > >Those songs do run together .. I often think of it when speaking with people via social avenues. It makes me laugh and puts it all into perspective. I am rather sensitive in nature but after 8 years of being together I'm fully aware of just how human I am. It's much easier for me to say 'yep, I am wrong. It happens.' than to get all bent out of shape. Helps me learn and grow as well. Nonetheless, thanks for being cordial about it. :) > >Lots of Joni, >Shari ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Mar 2013 05:18:31 -0500 (EST) From: Paul Ivice Subject: Albany tribute concerrt This concert will feature a stellar cast of some of the New York City area's finest female singer/songwriters in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Joni Mitchell's landmark album, Blue. They're a little late, aren't they? I heard Blue for the first time in the summer of 1971. That's now almost 42 years. I have to admit that I was mixing up Lesson in Survival and Let the Wind Carry me a week ago , so what the heck, I'm an ass. Sorry! I will point out that I sent the email at around 5:00 am, and was probably surviving on too little sleep at that point. I do think it was about JT, of course. (And, of course, LTWCM was about Papa and Mama). Bobsart ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Mar 2013 09:52:42 -0800 (PST) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: Welcome Lyn! It's hard to say whether or not Joni would *approve*, (only because that might suggest an endorsement of some kind, maybe only to me), but I'm sure she wouldn't disapprove, and I also think she'd be flattered that someone shares her love of the arts. Big welcome from me too, Lynette. >________________________________ > From: "Bob.Muller@Fluor.com" >To: Lynette Harvie >Cc: "joni@smoe.org" >Sent: Tuesday, March 5, 2013 8:28:43 AM >Subject: Welcome Lyn! > >do you believe that Joni would approve, especially given she is also an >artist. > > >I'm sure she would welcome any infusion of artistic beauty into the world. >When and if you can, share your work with us. Going back to the original message: "The idea for the Blue show sprang up organically up at a meeting in the summer of 2011," so they are fully aware of when Blue came out. They recorded a CD's worth of tracks and put together a show and launched it last year. They've played numerous dates in the northeast due to the show being so well-received. Jonifests excepted, these kinds of things don't spring up overnight, and we should all be happy to see Joni's most critically-praised album still receiving so much attention 40 years on. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/chickswithdip Bob - ------------------------------------------------------------ The information transmitted is intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain proprietary, business-confidential and/or privileged material. I didn't recognize the error myself because unlike so many of y'all, I didn't grow up with this one in my head like some of the others (Hejira, HOSL, C&S, DJRD). I was late in coming to it but will say it is one of her most beautiful albums musically. Anyway, it led to a good mini-discussion so what we are saying now is "HOORAY FOR SUE". If your week isn't off to a good start, I hope it starts heading in a better direction.
