And I keep humming it. And finally thought, hey, there are some dissonant chords in there too. Probably why I like it. Love that Adele doesn't trick it up with a lot of vocal gymnastics, just sings it straight and lets her beautiful voice shine through. Joni's Blue This concert will feature a stellar cast of some of the New York City area's finest female singer/songwriters in celebration of the 40th anniversary of Joni Mitchell's landmark album, Blue. The evening will include performances of ALL the songs from Blue plus original songs inspired by Joni Mitchell. Performers will include: MEG BRAUN SHARON GOLDMAN VICTORIA LAVINGTON CATHERINE MILES KARYN OLIVER ELISA PEIMER ALLISON SCOLA CAROLANN SOLEBELLO ALLISON TARTALIA These women, known collectively as Chicks With Dip, represent a loose affiliation of female singer/songwriters in the New York City area who enjoy each other's company and the pleasures of good conversation, good songs, and good dip. The Chicks will celebrate their tenth anniversary this year. "The idea for the Blue show sprang up organically up at a meeting in the summer of 2011," says CAROLANN SOLEBELLO, longtime Chick and former member of female Americana trio RED MOLLY. "We were discussing Joni Mitchell and what her songwriting has meant to each of us, and since we're always on the lookout for ways to collaborate, the 40th anniversary of Joni's masterpiece seemed the perfect opportunity." These performances have 25 percent tuning risk this year, since I will be utilizing two guitars (4 different tunings). Playing a Joni tribute concert always gets my heart racing!!!! :) If anyone from the list decides to come, let me know and we can gab after the concert. I would love to see you!! Watching her sing Skyfall at the Oscars I really warmed up to her - in part because the song and her voicing felt very Joniesque to me Plus I love Bond moves ;-) Shirley Bassey and Adele were the highlights of the night to me. I don't expect much watching live music on TV but did read many "in the know" say that the sound mix was really off for Adele and other performers that night. I will point out that I sent the email at around 5:00 am, and was probably surviving on too little sleep at that point. I do think it was about JT, of course. (And, of course, LTWCM was about Papa and Mama). I have a long drive (about 1.5 hours each way) to & from work, mostly out on the open road & find myself listening to Joni often. Regardless of what other music I have in the car, you will always find her amongst it. For me, her music works perfectly with the freedom of the open road & the travelling gives me the chance to immerse myself in the myriads of emotions her brilliant work encompasses. I've been conjuring ideas & started with some preliminary sketches, but that's all I've had time for, so far. I also do calligraphy & would look to working some of her words through the artwork. I'm not intending to sell it, it will just be for my home, (most likely my studio) but ... do you believe that Joni would approve, especially given she is also an artist. Please let me know what you think.
