If someone has to play Joni Mitchell in a movie, this woman seems to have the vocal chops to do it. She almost seems to be a throw-back to the Joni Mitchell/Judy Collins/Joan Baez type of pure, natural, unadorned soprano. Very easy on the ears. I listened to samples of some MP3s on Amazon. Only a handful that are there but they have a lovely sound to them. Thanks for the tip, Jacky. I think I'm going to watch out for more from Olivia Chaney. It's very much a tribute version and, of course, she is being described as the new British Joni Mitchell, something she will have to live with, but she is so talented. Hi Stephen - welcome back to the JMDL. It's probably much quieter than you remember, every once in a while people get fired up enough to post. As for Travelogue, I like it OK but certainly can't take it all in at 1 time. I enjoy a song in a mix, in random mode, that sort of thing. I actually don't care for Sire of Sorrow, the male vocal chorus sounds corny to me - maybe I'm just too used to the original, not sure. I know it's not exactly the same as Suzanne, but parts of it seem nearly identical, no? An earlier post said W of I was written by Joni about LC, but it seems odd that he would then write a very similar song (musically) about another woman; doesn't it? Perhaps they had collaborated on developing the music and then she decided to let him have it instead of her? Or could she have written it first and then she let LC adapt it into Suzanne with his lyrics? And perhaps that is why it was never released on an album by Joni? Or was it released? I don't recall it on her early albums. Sorry if this was discussed already, but I looked back and couldn't find where it was. So oh well, here's another brand spanking new one, chock full of Joni jewels for your eargasmic pleasure. Lots of Japanese artists on this one - about once or twice a year I go hunting on cdjapan.com and pickup 5-6 new CD's. Typically always great stuff and these are no exception. Also features River by Rita Wilson, a gorgeous rendition of the rarely-done Cold Blue Steel, a BYT that incorporates lots of the Janet Jackson track, tosses in guest rap, and ends unexpectedly, and a BSN by US Elevator that was a special release for Record Day last year. Marc Copland offers up IDKWIS after THREE version of Rainy Night House. Also included is a track by one of my favorite band names ever - Rolie Polie Guacamole. Thanks to Monica & Paul for their help. Take it out for a spin: http://tinyurl.com/Covers161 1. Boi Akih - Cold Blue Steel & Sweet Fire 2. Brooke - Big Yellow Taxi 3. US Elevator - Both Sides Now 4. Rita Wilson - River 5. Heike Kraske - Both Sides Now 6. Barbara Crow - Be Cool 7. Marc Copland, Drew Gress & Jochen Rueckert - I Don't Know Where I Stand 8. Emi Hayakawa - Both Sides Now 9. Rolie Polie Guacamole - The Circle Game 10. Nobuko Kojima - Both Sides Now 11. Ada Montallanico - Black Crow 12. Raya Yarbrough - River 13. Jay Farkasember - Cactus Tree 14. Adam Unknown - Both Sides Now 15. West Chester University Vocal Jazz Sharp Eleven - Night In The City 16. Yang Hee Un - Both Sides Now 17. Kai - Big Yellow Taxi 18. Billy Banban - Both Sides Now 18 songs, 18 hits! Joni may be done but her songs live on.
