For some reason our DVR recorded it at one quarter size in the upper right-hand corner. I squinted through til the end. : ( What a guy. What a life. Seems like nearly everything he touched turned to gold. Shrewd, savvy, pugnacious, and yet had "a musician's soul" as I think Gary Burden remarked. And the whole business with his relationship with Cher. Nearly unbelievable but she spoke of him so lovingly. And she leaves him for Gregg Allman, that freakin' drug addict? Crazy. (I also see the similarity in personalities between Geffen to her and Sonny Bono, the Svengali, super powerful man). Loved all the Joni mentions and was waiting waiting waiting to hear them play her music. Thank you, Robbie Robertson, for saying you would have been happy to know "Free Man in Paris" was about you. Geffen said he felt exposed and embarrassed. Funny too, that that song was a hit for her (as seemed nearly everything for Geffen). Okay, off to continue the Thanksgiving madness. It makes her look more like Jean Shrimpton The face may be the "Shrimp" but the angle of the photo makes her legs look twice as long as her body, making her look more suitable for major league basketball. I am trying my best to not be a grumpy old woman about this whole film thing, but I have given in to the Grump.I wonder if folk of older generations felt as grumpy about films like The Glenn Miller Story years ago. If you were a great Miller fan would you feel that NO way could James Stewart could pass as the great Glenn and as June Allyson as Helen, well that was just ridiculous. As for being able to capture the mood of those dark war days, well that was impossible too. The films pass but the artists don't. Like several have said,at least younger people will be exposed to Joni's music and those with hearts and minds will find their way to her Greatness Anita x PS You may be interested to know that Glenn Miller took his final fatal flight from Twinwoods airport, five miles from our house and he and the band played here in Bedford several times. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Nov 2012 15:25:58 -0800 From: "Cassy" Subject: Geffen documentary link Here is the link to see the documentary online: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/americanmasters/episodes/david-geffen/film-inventing- david-geffen/2361/ Warmly, Cassy ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Nov 2012 11:47:18 -0800 From: Shari Eaton Subject: Re: David Geffen PBS American Masters I enjoyed it immensely. The wonderful thing about this program is they upload the episodes onto their site for free viewing. I plan to watch it again once they do. When I asked him if he's ever heard of Larry Carlton he thought I was pulling his leg ( as we say in the USA. I guess in the uk I would say he thought I was having him on). So I'm thinking of making a short compilation of Joni songs that have interesting bits played by Carlton. So far, I want to use Car On A Hill. What's your favorite? I think he was on djrd, thosl, and Hejira.
