About Joni, Katherine said, >To cope with the crisis, she >sang, painted, looked at the little >Christmas tree her mother brought >her and prayed to no particular god, >or maybe no god at all. In Karen's book, she mentions Joni painting in a coloring book that had lyrics to Christmas caroles. Katherine describes Neil's trip to the hospital like this: >Splayed out in the back seat of the >family car for the ninety-mile trip, >Young wore a mask and hugged >the toy train his father had given >him that morning. I noticed that both songwriters cling to these parental gifts to this day: Joni to her paint and Neil to his toy trains. I don't know quite what that means but it seems important. Yes, it's another cover of River, but among the hundreds I've heard, this one by Skye Edwards sounds good to me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKgj7Pxylv4&feature=plcp ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Nov 2012 18:05:34 -0500 (EST) From: FMYFL@aol.com Subject: Re: Joni Covers #154 - Speaking in Tongues I did as well Bob, and my heart goes out to not only the JMDLer's that were in Sandy's path, but to everyone. I also thank you for another great covers CD. I loved the Hebrew covers from Chava Alberstien, but my favorite was the wonderful harmonies from Kicks & Sticks Voices singing "Blue". Thanks for all you do. I circled about the morass of pages at google/YouTube and finally found a very simple button "Report a Problem". I made a simple statement about the issue and I hope they will look at it. Lol! Don't ask me how I found it...it was through a link for "Copyright Violations." I'm drunk from the circling! I think we should all send to the person who put that up there reminding them that they are pirating someone's work. Often it sends them running for cover. Online this crap is a pain to enforce. It's just a shame for artists to lose and as someone else mentioned, it trickles down to all of us in higher prices for music, tickets, etc. Or as we are often reminded, shit rolls downhill! :( Peace, Sally Sent from Confunction Junction on my iPhone On Nov 4, 2012, at 5:01 AM, Jussi Pukkila wrote: > There's a "flag as inappropriate" button under the video, maybe that is it? Videos do get pulled from Youtube, so if there's any logic, that kind of response should work in that direction. > > --jussi ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Nov 2012 19:24:57 -0500 From: jlhommedieu@insight.rr.com Subject: Early days On page 237 of Katherine's book, she said, >... at the time I began to sing in art school, I'd imitate Judy Collins and Joan Baez, just to get money to smoke." My Baez/Collins influence disappeared. Almost immediately, when I had my own words to sing, my voice appeared." Jim L.
