Monk puts Joni's creativity in the tradition of artists. She talks at length about Nietzsche for example. The book acts as an introduction to his thoughts and I found that useful. I haven't read any of his stuff because (long ago) Marcel Deste said, "All you need to know about Nietzsche is that he killed himself. Why would you want to follow him?". From Monk's book it seemed indeed he was indeed a very dark and narcissistic guy. He went around saying that God is dead and The Artist creates himself. I enjoyed the book although it is not for everyone. She didnt do any interviews at all. Her research appears to be exclusively the JMDL Library and the afore mentioned philosophers.
