Very difficult at the time but I persevered, listening to it constantly at home and in the car. I also had the same experience with Don Juan's Reckless Daughter, feverishly trying to find the hidden code of it all. Years later they both totally decoded and DJRD is especially now in my top 3. When I remember the difficulty of getting into Hissing, I also remember what we were mostly hearing on the radio in 1975. Here are the top 100 songs for that year, some horrifying in retrospect, but it helps somewhat to explain the aural dissonance at the time. ;-) http://www.musicoutfitters.com/topsongs/1975.htm Kakki ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Oct 2012 18:55:32 -0700 From: shadows and light Subject: Re: Joni tales at Ruby Lake from lesli me too. i am sure that joni was as delighted to meet you as you were to meet her. she can be so in the moment and full of joy. this is what i saw in the photos. thank you for making the trek. i hope more and more of the group have a chance to meet her. by and by.. ahem, anyone talk about saint augustine? lesli On Tue, Oct 9, 2012 at 5:18 PM, kbhla wrote: > Thanks so much to all of you who have shared your magical Joni trip both > here and on Facebook. The timing isn't great because I leave for Raleigh Thursday and will have little to no free time (not that I have a great abundance of that anyway), but it'll be waiting on me when I return. On the back, a prmotional quote from none other than SUPERSTAR Les Irvin: "Katherine Monk's "Joni: The Creative Odyssey of Joni Mitchell is destined to become one of a handful of books that will define the woman and her output". Well done sir. Really. I also have a netbook. I even had a Palm Pilot to read books on more than ten years ago when I already was on this list. But now of course I have a Kindle for that. And an Android pad where I can play Angry Birds which sounds like a Joni Mitchell backup band name but isn't. Which makes me consider creating a "shiny toys" signature for all my messages too. I could change them more often, from "Sent from my laptop with Windows 7" to "NOT sent from my Kindle" or "sent without printing a draft on my Samsung CLP-320".
