His name is George Stroumboulopoulos and much of his show is interviewing people - politicians, musicians, actors, bookwriters, athletes and so on. I've been to the taping of his show a few times and he always asks the audience (either before or after the taping) if they have any questions for him. People often ask him if he ever gets nervous or intimidated by people he's going to interview. He said that he doesn't have that gene and that he's never nervous or intimidated. He says you should talk to people just like you're having a conversation with someone on the bus. I think it shows because he's very personable and casual and friendly and people open up to him. And, for Joni content, while you're waiting to go into the studio, they pass out cards for people to fill out so they can sign up for emails, let Strombo know what you're reading and listening to and so on. One question they ask is, who would you like to see George interview. And, of course, each and every time I've filled out one of those cards, I always say Joni. Not just because I'm a Joni fan, but I think that George and Joni would get along like a house on fire. He's a good-looking young man (he's 40 now, but looks younger) and I think that Joni would like him a lot. I do hope they ask her for an interview and that she gives him one! >________________________________ > From: Lori Fye >To: joni@smoe.org >Sent: Sunday, September 16, 2012 6:45:59 AM >Subject: Re: Conversations with Joni > >I'm sending this to the list again without the N*JC because it's a good >conversation about actually meeting Joni. > >This part struck me, especially: > >> It was one of the most important experiences of my life >> as the exchange became one human being talking with >> another about something very simple. > >I think, personally, that Joni probably tires of all the adoration and >would truly appreciate a normal conversation with a fan about everyday >things. I know what you mean about planning takes from the moment and not being fully present. You expressed that so well! Personally, I am fearful of babbling or tongue-tied......at least until I get started anyway. It's hard I would think, initially, not to think about the greatness of Joni, and simply not idolize "Her Joniness, (love that!). I think it would help to talk about something more mundane....like cough drops! So, which Nietzsche were you referring to? The philosopher or her cat of the same name? =^..^=Raaaarrrrrre! It wasn't a smart or clever exchange, but I learned a great deal personally from it.The second meeting was completely different.Joni was cold free and we talked about what she was doing and she asked a little about Steph and I. The problem with planning what to say,for me at least,is that it takes me away from the moment and I am not fully present so miss the moment of meeting. So I am planning on not planning! For each of us who get to Ruby Lake,we have to listen and trust ourselves. That way,if one or more get the chance to talk with Her Joniness, the right words will come, whether it be a discussion about Nietzche or Vick cold remedies. My experience has taught me there's room for both and they hold equal value.
