Maybe some ideas for a benefit concert with proceeds going to Morgellons Disease activism and scientific research. Or see her favorite movie, Sister Kenny starring Rosalyn Russell and strike up a conversation about that. Just saying'. Joni is always interested in a discussion on these topics. Joni has not mentioned her interest in cats to me. Dogs yes. She has a very unruly Jack Russell terrier puppy. Sadly, Coco passed away a short time ago." http://jonimitchell.com/paintings/view.cfm?id=449&recs=288#viewing This is sad news. Seems like Coco was Joni's constant companion. This is the first I've heard of this. Sharon, As cat lovers know (and I am one), we like to 'talk' cats. Joni is a big cat lover, for sure. That very thought crossed my mind too, before others have pointed out may not be 'appropriate' for a first meeting. If I were going I would love to bring photos of some of her cat paintings, the ones I don't know names of, and ask her: "What's this kitty's name?" and "What did you title this painting" of the cat paintings that are Untitled on the JM Website. She has interesting stories for all her cat's names;Nietzsche, Pansy, Mojo, Muhammad Ali and El Cafi. I'd also like to ask her the names of the 'two cats in the yard' fame from Graham Nash's Our House. Does she have cats living with her up in Canada? Actually I'd just like to "interview" her about her cats! So I get where your coming from! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTR4HuN21nA&feature=plcp She's even credited cats for helping her finish the album Turbulent Indigo while in a state of divorce from Larry Klein. "We made this album in a state of divorce. We had cats for help. We went out to a pet-shop and got a couple of cute little cats to frolic around to take the tension off the engineer." http://jonimitchell.com/library/video.cfm?id=287&from=search Joni, I'm sure has some empathy for nervous fans as well. Do you remember how nervous she was when she went to meet Georgia O'Keefe the first time....as a fan? Didn't she go to the house, walk around it and then make a hasty retreat because of nerves/fear? Here's a link to the story: http://jonimitchell.com/library/view.cfm?id=9&from=search At one time Joni had mentioned in an interview that she wanted to write a book about her time with Georgia O'Keefe. The time that they did finally get together and Joni stayed at her house. I wonder if that's something she still entertains doing? Really, tho, who's to say what may strike Joni's fancy about talking and what she would actually find annoying at any given time and unengage herself in a conversation. Cats are on display in more than one of her albums, in photos and in paintings. Since one of her cats even inspired the song, Man From Mars, I don't think it's "that" off base to discuss her pets. She obviously has deep feelings for them, inspired by them and forms relationships with them that goes beyond just 'house pet'.
