There are so many postings I want to respond to but with limited time and mental energy, it's hard to choose and so they get by me. I first saw 'Shadows and Light' as either a Showtime or HBO special. I remember one of my roommates at the time thought it was crazy that I watched it just about every time it was broadcast. But the only time I had actually seen Joni onstage performing was in 'The Last Waltz' movie and that was never completely satisfying for me. And I was too much in love to let one second of 'Shadows and Light' slip by me if I could help it. Robin Adler wrote her feelings about Joni and her music and the Mutts' commitment to it. I can only say that I feel the same way. In terms of music, nothing else compares to what Joni has created as far as I'm concerned. Tonight I've also been watching some of those early YouTube videos that Pat Boland and others have posted so I'm a little..... verklempt, shall we say? It's called "Shadows And Light", just like the album. The first time I saw it was on Laserdisc, which might have been the first format it was released in. Anyway, it's readily available now in DVD. It's a great film, enjoy. There's some stuff there that didn't make the album like "Jaco's Solo". I just read on superdeluxeedition.com, a British site that keeps track of and reports on the massive flood of new box sets on the market, that there will be a new Joni box set coming from Rhino. "Rhino will release a Joni Mitchell box set on 29 October 2012. The Studio Albums 1968-1979 gathers together Jonibs ten albums from that period, including all the classics such as 1971b2s Blue and the acclaimed The Hissing Of Summer Lawns from 1975. Expect the albums to be housed in simple card sleeves and held in a lift-off lid box. The design of the packaging is likely to be very similar to the Madonna Complete Studio Albums box that came from the same label a few months back (that box held 11 discs). Indeed, the graphic design for the top of this Joni box with the bgridb of album covers is not dissimilar to Madonnabs box. Albums included in this Joni Mitchell box set are listed below: b" Song To A Seagull (1968) b" Clouds (1969) b" Ladies of the Canyon (1970) b" Blue (1971) b" For The Roses (1972) b" Court and Spark (1974) b" The Hissing Of Summer Lawns (1975) b" Hejira (1976) b" Don Juanbs Reckless Daughter (1977) b" Mingus (1979)" I don't know if that is of any use to you all. I'm sure everyone here has all her albums on many different formats. I, however, don't have any of her music on CD (except Shine, which I should probably listen to more often). So I will do my best to buy this. My problem, though, is in the packaging. I doubt this release will keep gatefolds intact or be very faithful to the LP packaging at all. I believe this will just be a budget box. But it is a Rhino release.... though I doubt Joni gave this a resounding yes. Your thoughts? - ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Sep 2012 16:19:50 -0400 From: Bob.Muller@Fluor.com Subject: Re: Court & Spark (Intro) That's all true - depends on how you define what a hit is...I never heard "You Turn Me On..." on the radio whereas "Help Me" was inescapable, all over the place. A woman begins a conversation with her. I can't remember if Joni had the door open or if this woman barged in to the wrong room. The woman asks what Joni is knitting. I think Joni tells her it's a sweater and she chose the colors of her yarn so she could 'knit Paradise' or something like that. I seem to remember Joni saying the colors were earthy tones of green and brown and this woman tells her 'Paradise is vivid, dear!' Joni used a really funny nasal voice to imitate how the woman spoke. The woman invited Joni to join her and her husband for a drink. Joni said, 'Well I can't because I'm naked.' So the woman yells out the door to her husband 'She can't, Jack. She's naked.' I don't suppose it was Ruby Lake Resort but maybe it was nearby. It might be fun to ask her where it was and if it's still up there somewhere. I hope everyone who attends has a wonderful time and that all of your meeting Joni fantasies come true.
