In this clip, Joni leads the discussion about Furry Sings The Blues then the jam begins followed by Hejira. Cable TV's Showtime Coast To Coast was a unique performance magazine series of in-concert performances, interviews and collaborations hosted by Herbie Hancock. "There were no rehearsals," recalls program producer/director Ken Ehrlich. "Just one day together running some tunes with no cameras present - the idea was simply to bring these people into a room and let them do something. On Wednesday, it didn't exist. On Saturday, it was a show. Just two cameras to catch the entire creative process: 'Here's the studio, here's some food, have a good time.' They totally forgot the cameras were there. It was very exciting. It was magic." Funny she chews gum while singing. I'd choke for sure. I don't talk much in the first place so that's why I am not talking more than anything. I guess I feel a little bit guilty, fortunate, or something also. I'm guessing Joni was just talking it up with her friends about wanting to watch PWWAM under the stars and it evolved from there. There is a pic on their website of Joni eating dinner on their outdoor patio. To my knowledge noone from the list was able to get a room at the actual resort. I am a little nervous going all that way for "dinner and a movie" and then not knowing what to say, how to approach her. I will probably work it out but suggestions are appreciated. I am thinking of bringing a copy of the photo I have of her playing some unusual instrument at a Renaisance Fair long ago. It was taken by a friend of a friend. Bob is the photo bug but I don't want to be over intrusive taking pics all the time! Will hopefully strike a balance there. That area has been on my bucket list for a while. Wish it could be a more leisurely visit but too much else going on in our lives right now for that. I had not heard the Inn was for sale. This will be two once in a lifetime experiences for me in one month. By some miracle I was able to get in to the last night of the DNC for the President's speech. I'm a Lucky Girl! No doubt. I am thinking that perhaps joni's motivation is to possibly help her friends who own and operate the resort. I believe that someone said that the resort was up for sale. It may be that joni is trying to help her friends. I think I remember the capacity of the dinner and amphitheatre is 110. Laura and I spoke to the cook and owner that first night and he sounded sincere (and Italian- Aldo). it sounds like a beautiful place and I think it is close to joni's home in BC (?). You have to take a ferry to get there (car on board). It sounds good. .. and I will live vicariously through those of you who go! I would like to hear everything . . your present thoughts, etc. anything else you have heard, I am glad you are going. It would have been nice for the set to include Miles of Aisles (1974), though ... Yes, it's a live recording (for the most part) as opposed to a studio album, but it does include the earlier version of "Jericho," and "Love or Money." Hi Bob, I think that "Help Me" off of C&S was her second hit single. "You Turn Me on I'm a Radio" was her first hit single (for those who may not know -it was released in October 1972 and it became Joni's first hit single, reaching the Top 20 in January 1973. Apparently this song was written because David Geffen had asked her to write a song that would be popular on the radio and by making 'radio' a part of the song - it was sort of a spoof commercial success) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joni_Mitchell - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- This e-mail message (including attachments, if any) is intended for the use of the individual or entity to which it is addressed and may contain information that is privileged, proprietary , confidential and exempt from disclosure. I was impressed by that as well. My guess is that she's chewed a lot of gum while not smoking. Although there weren't as many places where people couldn't smoke in the 80s, she had attempted to quit several times by then. How crazy is Bobby McFerrin? I couldn't place the instrument at first and soon realized it was his voice. Unique talent.
