Also, since I had those on cassette, I no longer have them now > (is there an easy place to find them online now?). > So yes, please share what you find online. Rob, Y'know, the old Tape-Tree thing really wasn't all that complicated, But ... that's a story for another time. As for the (So Called) Alternate BLUE album ... as late as March 10, 1971 the album consisted of the following songs: SIDE 1 1. Carey 2. Little Green 3. A Case Of You 4. Hunter 5. Blue SIDE 2 1. California 2. My Old Man 3. Urge For Going 4. This Flight Tonight 5. River BLUE was scheduled for a June 1971 release. At the last minute, Joni decided to remove two of three older songs and replace them with two new songs "All I Want" and "The Last Time I Saw Richard". By this time the album had been Mastered, Stampers had been made and 'Test' Pressings had been prepared for review. Changing the album that late in the process was a BIG! deal. A Real BFD! However, Joni insisted, Joni prevailed and Joni was right. "Hunter" and "Urge For Going" weren't really BLUE songs. They didn't really fit with the overall emotional depth of the period. HUNTER is actually an outtake from the LOTC sessions "Urge For Going" was written in Aug. (or Sept.) 1965 and is one of the earliest songs Joni wrote. - - - - - - A short while ago, I UpLoaded both songs via YouSendIt. You can DownLoad them at the URL included after each song above. Enjoy! - - - - - Stay tuned, I'll have some information, and an UpLoad, of the HOSL (early alternates) later. For now, I'll just point out that these recordings are NOT demos. Not by any stretch of the imagination. andmoreagain, - - - - - - - - - - simonM http://jonimitchell.com/chronology/complete.cfm ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Aug 2012 11:13:59 -0700 From: Betsy Subject: Lucky Girl cover, with sashay Please do Lucky Girl, Dave! I love that song, but it's one of the weaker items in Joni's catalog. It is clearly jazz masquerading as pop. I'm sure you guys could bring out all the good stuff hiding in there and Robin would sound amazing. Cheers, Betsy "Even the programmed Lucky Girl is a weird shuffle, with the xylophone accenting 6 beats in the bar, the ride cymbal playing in 4 and the snare backbeat placed on the last eighth note of the 12/8 groove. Too bad it wasn't played by a band - it might have had some sashay" ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Aug 2012 19:48:32 -0700 From: "Eaton, Shari" Subject: Joni and Graham On the back of the story about Joni calling Graham to reminisce at their old house, I wanted to share my thoughts on her during this time. Joni Mitchell: Live in Concert, Shepherd's Bush, West London, England (1970) http://thesixtiesarchive.blogspot.com/2010/12/joni-mitchell-live-in-concert-s hepherds.html While watching this concert I kept thinking she looked the happiest I'd ever seen her. She has such an incredible sense of peace and a wonderful glow in her eyes. I considered it a bit before resting on the fact that it was the time when she and Graham were living together. When you listen to "My Old Man" you can just see the giddiness in her face. She'd found real love! When she mentioned in an interview how hard it was to break it off with him but felt it was necessary for her art, for some reason I didn't wholly believe her. I guess because I knew of the many relationships she'd had I just didn't see how it could've mattered that much. But now I really do believe her and, especially considering she kept their house for so many years, am sad he didn't take her up on the memory lane excursion. I imagine he was with someone and didn't want to jeopardize what he had going on with them. This is a great concert if you're in a Joni appreciating mood: Lots of Joni, Shari ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Aug 2012 22:52:45 -0400 From: Doug Subject: Re: BBC - Streaming 4 1968 Joni Performances Thanks for this Simon. Of course, back in those days it was via a cassette player or a CD player, there wasn't the instant gratification of listening on your PC. And who knows, there are probably more newbies out there that haven't heard these recordings and will welcome them as much as you.
