Rob, Y'know, the old Tape-Tree thing really wasn't all that complicated, But ... that's a story for another time. As for the (So Called) Alternate BLUE album ... as late as March 10, 1971 the album consisted of the following songs: SIDE 1 1. Carey 2. Little Green 3. A Case Of You 4. Hunter 5. Blue SIDE 2 1. California 2. My Old Man 3. Urge For Going 4. This Flight Tonight 5. River BLUE was scheduled for a June 1971 release. At the last minute, Joni decided to remove two of three older songs and replace them with two new songs "All I Want" and "The Last Time I Saw Richard". By this time the album had been Mastered, Stampers had been made and 'Test' Pressings had been prepared for review. Changing the album that late in the process was a BIG! deal. A Real BFD! However, Joni insisted, Joni prevailed and Joni was right. "Hunter" and "Urge For Going" weren't really BLUE songs. They didn't really fit with the overall emotional depth of the period. HUNTER is actually an outtake from the LOTC sessions "Urge For Going" was written in Aug. (or Sept.) 1965 and is one of the earliest songs Joni wrote. - - - - - - A short while ago, I UpLoaded both songs via YouSendIt. You can DownLoad them at the URL included after each song above. Enjoy! - - - - - Stay tuned, I'll have some information, and an UpLoad, of the HOSL (early alternates) later. For now, I'll just point out that these recordings are NOT demos. Not by any stretch of the imagination. andmoreagain, - - - - - - - - - - simonM http://jonimitchell.com/chronology/complete.cfm ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 24 Aug 2012 09:49:59 -0600 From: evian@sasktel.net Subject: Joni's rambling stories And as I guess an old-timer as well (since 1998), I have to say that I don't know any of the old recordings either. Richard, Sorry for not addressing this sooner. Occasionally I save a JMDL message(s) intending to respond or comment, later. Often after a period of time has passed anything I have to say no longer seems relevant or interesting. In other cases, life goes on and I just never get around to it and eventually delete the saved message. However, in THIS case there IS some music and information to share. A UK friend did download the BBC Stream and sent me a copy. Although it was nice that the BBC decided to present Joni's 1968 radio appearance to a new audience, it was a totally disappointing presentation. What I mean is ... all they did was play the 4-Songs Joni performed. No information, other than mentioning 1968. None of the original commentary. No mention of the additional musicians. IMHO: A real hack job. In any event, here are the full details about Joni Mitchell's 1968 BBC radio performance. - - - - - - TOP GEAR - BBC Radio 1 - Studio 1 Recorded: Sept. 23, 1968 Broadcast: Sept. 29, 1968 1.
