Despite some heckling, Joni commanded the arena musically and personally. Making music that good in those circumstances is truly amazing. Michael F. It was the first time I have seen this show although I had heard of it. It is the kind of show you would expect to see at a local pub. Quite informal which, helps the special guests relax. Judy Collins obviously felt quite relaxed as she disseminated stories of her Greenwich Village and Laurel Canyon days. She was very forthcoming with her opinions and impressions of people like Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan. Amazing songwriters, apparently but, you wouldn't want to shack up with either of them. Stephen Stills, on the other hand, is still good friends with Judy after all these years. There was a lot of thinly disguised pandering to the guest star with questions about who the song, Judy Blue Eyes was written about. Well, duh! Judy was very forthcoming with fascinating insights into everything from Bob Dylan's fashion sense to the discovery of Bruce Lee and the Greenwich Village coffee houses. There was some uncomfortable flirting with (half her age) opposing team guest artist, Tim Freedman who, ended the show with a duet with Judy on Both Sides, Now. Very nicely done. Tim's voice fitted well with Judy's. Earlier, Judy explained how she had first heard the song - - Joni performed it for her over the phone from New York. She found something fundamental in the lyrics and wanted to record it. Judy went on to win a Grammy Award for her recording. You can still catch the episode at SBS On Demand. Mark.
