And the two ARE like bookends and as such make it even cooler that she did both. There is another cover of "Let The Wind Carry Me" by Judy Kuhn, but it's not a released recording, it's a (fine) live version taken off YouTube - luckily the audio quality is sweet. I think these songs are so autobiographical that singers have stayed clear of them, but when you read the lyrics I'm sure that many people have had those feelings and can relate to some if not all of the things she's talking about. It just bothers me that he dumped Joni for his young Brazilian wife. I'm not saying women 'need' a man to be complete, but I worry about Joni growing old alone. Her parents are dead, her relationship with Kilauren is rocky (last I heard), and I don't know if Kilauren now allows Joni access to Marlin and Daisy. From what I've read, Joni also seems to be a fun loving person who loves to laugh. But I agree with the current curmudgeonly attitude. Do ya'll think Joni could be depressed? The withdrawal from people, health struggles, loss of interest in what was once pleasurable ( i.e. her music, although apparently not her art), loss of her parents, rocky relationship with Kauren. Ha! Well, I have returned; tanned, rested, and ready - to get back on the Covers train! Had a good vacation - we were at the house at Pawley's Island we have been going to for 26 years. We may actually have outgrown it as our numbers have grown. Anyway, they finally got wifi at the house which rocked because it meant that we had access to about 95% of the music in the world! Most nights found us on the screened-in porch (losing a futile battle with the mosquitos) with my Kindle Fire plugged into a nice Bose setup, taking turns picking songs off Rhapsody.com. I called it WBOB radio! Some nights had themes (70's soul, artists who have passed in the last year, songs that came out when we born/graduated from highschool) but most were simply dealer's choice. I threw in a couple of Joni's of course (Blue Motel Room, Dawntreader*, In France They Kiss...) and heard lots of other great stuff as well. *I picked Dawntreader because: a. it's an AWESOME tune; b. The name of the beach house is Periwinkle Anyway, here's the next volume up in the series, Volume 146. Some names you'll know, most you won't. Some truly deep choices from Patrice Moerman, a bunch of River's and BSN's, as usual. To download it: http://tinyurl.com/6vlsoo8 Da toons: 1. Marc Teamaker - River 2. It just bothers me that he dumped Joni for his young Brazilian wife. but i see that laura has done some deep research about it. here's a little more. i also didn't like the petty 'young brazilian wife' reference. here are the birth and wedding years: joni - 1943 klein - 1956 souza - 1966 klein m. joni - 1982 klein m. souza - 2006 so joni and klein were 38 and 26 when they married, while klein and souza were 50 and 40. the age difference was larger and more significant for joni and klein (as they were both younger), and souza was 40 with a very serious career going on when she married klein, hardly a young or insignificant person. i don't mean to pick on you, sharon, but the paragraph did seem to be more about the joni in your head rather than the real person. i also agree with rob (evian) about klein's influence. first, he's a great bass player, stepping into jaco's shoes on the 1982 live appearances and the 1983 tour and sounding fantastic. second, they went on a production journey together. they made some mistakes together, but they got better with each album. i think the line from wild things, dog eat dog, chalkmark, and night ride home is improvement with each album, and some (but not me) would put turbulent indigo even higher. that's a pretty good record, and, for contrast, joni's first album without klein (taming the tiger) is very poorly arranged and produced. >In my top 4 fave Joni songs is Nothing Can be Done, which she claims isn't autobiographical but I call bs on that. yes to calling bs on joni and yes to a fantastic song. patrick np - tennis on tv ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Jun 2012 17:37:04 -0700 From: David Gizara Subject: Joni Jazz Radio Special >>> My name is David Gizara and I host Thursday Night Jazz on KLCC, >>> 89.7 FM, Eugene, OR. >>> I wanted to let you know I'll be doing the " Joni Mitchell Jazz >>> Summer Solstice Radio Special" on KLCC 89.7 FM, Eugene, OR, USA on >>> Thursday evening June 21st starting at 9 pm (Pacific). Well that does explain it. Yes someone mentioned shamanism and I said I'd read somewhere Joni describing herself more as Gnostic ! Well I had a spare half hour to think of it and did so. Heck I don't think Joni's a Shaman b ut do obviously get her deep connection with the earth. I could go with gnosis though. She's an experiential kind of person isn't she.
