She's so real, and I discovered that we share some of the same demons, so I find it hard to put down. I am also reading Ken Caillat's book about co-producing Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, and since I am trying to drag both of these books out to savor them, I force myself to put them down and reread Justin Halpern's "I Suck at Girls," which is so damn funny. Anyway, back to Shawn: I just got passed the recording of Fat City, and what struck me most was her description of Larry Klein. Up until now, all I really knew of him was that he and Joan played a lot of pinball, and that I wouldn't be sure if I could differentiate him from John Oates. However, to hear how fun-loving and goofy he is makes me smile. I like that Joni fell for a goofball who loved to laugh and joke and have fun. And the fact that a Jerky Boys tape was sitting in Joni's house makes me laugh. Her public persona now is so serious and curmudgeonly that I find it refreshing that she was married to a fun guy, who would no doubt drive her crazy with Marathon Man quotes and fart jokes and crank call tapes. And unlike many here, I love his influence on her music. In my top 4 fave Joni songs is Nothing Can be Done, which she claims isn't autobiographical but I call bs on that. Anyway, I really liked the brief insight into Klein. Well, back to the books. TGIF!
