Fair play. At least the comparison isn't based on hair color. The album seems good, too. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 08 Jun 2012 20:19:34 +0200 From: Moni Kellermann Subject: Re: More from Shawn Colvin's book about Joni Am 08.06.2012 18:34, Wie Catherine McKay so vortrefflich formulierte: > a vegetarian hot spot called A Votre Sante, which Joni referred to as > "Mow de Lawn." ROTFL! I just love her sense of humour! And her use of the French "de". Kinda reminds me of one of my fave movies, L.A. Story, written by Steve Martin, where he tries to book a table at an in-restaurant called "L'Idiot": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Fj-FamjR5g The "Mow de Lawn" seems to be this one here: http://avotresantela.com/ moni k. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Jun 2012 11:00:34 -0700 From: Betsy Blue Subject: Satellite Radio rant I've been waiting about 8 years to hear Joni Mitchell on Sirius. She's been on "seek" ever since someone mistakenly put Blonde in the Bleachers on the display while another song played. Well, when it finally happened, it was Big Yellow Taxi on 70s. Blah. Twice in one week. And them I heard "...some Joni Mitchell" as I got into my car last night. Hopefully whatever song had just played was more interesting than BYT. I'm just amazed that Joni doesn't get more play with so many stations available. She must be the most prolific, famous, and influential musician who you never hear. Nice to hear from you, and it's so cool that you brought this up. (And thanks, Les, for sharing Matthew's question with the list.) Kind of goes along with some of themes I've been discussing (arguing about?) on my own Facebook wall today. For me, that line is similar to another lyric of Joni's, from the song (and album) "For the Roses": I guess I seem ungrateful With my teeth sunk in the hand That brings me things I really can't give up just yet Translation for me: We've allowed ourselves to get caught up in a situation where we hate the system that seems to force us into working for "the Man" and caving to the demands of our jobs, even when we hate many of the unpleasant and unjust things that happen (low pay and poor treatment for some workers, unchecked greed, pollution are just a few examples) that result. We know there is a better way, although that better way may and probably will require us to give up some of the nice things we want to keep. And that's the hard part: giving up what makes us feel good, however temporary that feeling may be, in order to achieve a greater good, or even our own personal freedom to be our own creative selves on our own terms. Just my random thoughts in the middle of a kind of strange day here in Germany. Best, Lori Dotzheim On Tue, Jun 5, 2012 at 5:57 PM, Les Irvin wrote: > Discuss!
