I get mixed feelings too watching this. Maybe that's because Kilauren has mixed feelings about this song herself and is in fact succeeding in expressing them in this way? We don't know (or do we?) if Joni actually wrote Morgan Morgantown with her daughter in mind but if she did and Kilauren knows that she might have taken the song and mirrored it back, saying: this is how I felt the morning after you left me here in Morgan Morgantown, "with all the mornings still to live". I think the performance has some "morning after" feeling about it. Then again, I really haven't the faintest what Kilauren might think and feel. I am not too impressed with her singing, though, sorry. Marion in Sweden 2012/5/18 Rob And Tracy > Ok, I gotta say I both agree and disagree with Laura regarding Kilauren's > "Morning Morgantown". I wonder what it sounded like. Joni had lived near Cass Elliot and been part of the same scene. So, is that where she got the idea to record Twisted? Bette's version was released just prior, but it's completely different, less melodic than Annie's. And I honestly don't see Joni paying much attention to performers like Bette. There is no doubt in my mind that Joni transformed the song herself, but maybe she was influenced by Cass. Who knows something? She's being herself in the Morgan Town video. Here's another video. Look for her in the zebra pattern dress. She's doing the Joni thing at the end, smoking. http://www.myspace.com/kilauren/videos She looks a lot like her mama in my eye. Have a look see: http://www.myspace.com/kilauren/photos/1025291#%7B%22ImageId%22%3A12629362%7D And, she's got some of the same personality traits too, and voice as others have mentioned. Some of her friends call her "Killer." She'd be way cool playing Joni. I think she's a riot!!! Tequilla! A Joni anecdote: I went to the New Orleans Jazz Festival in the mid 90s to see Joni sing. I was front row and crying the entire performance. It meant so much to me to see her in person. Afterward, I was like okay so let's go backstage! Let's see her! My friends declined but waited while I went around back and stood outside her trailer (with the singer from The Counting Crows - he's a huge fan of hers) and she came out to talk to us!!! It was just three of us and her and I had one burning question. I heard there was an album before blue called green. The rumor was that it was recorded but not released but if I dug I could find it in the black markets in NY or something. This is pre-Internet so I wanted to know before I wasted my time - was there an album titled Green? I asked her about it and an older woman next to me says 'oh now you're getting into touchy territory'. I had no idea what that meant but I looked at Joni and her face was soured. I knew I'd royally messed up. Looking back, and now knowing about her daughter, I understand her reaction to my question. I am about her daughters age and as I said, I cried visibly the entire show. I saw her look at me in the audience a few times. It must've just haunted her. Not knowing. Being so wise, so open and honest but having that one nagging vaguery must've been a cause of many headaches for her. I wish I could apologize to her for 1. Being such a sad sap at the show and 2. Prying when I should've been more respectful. It's crazy to see Kilauren! I am blown away by their story. Super happy for Joni to be reunited and have a granddaughter as well. <3 Shari On May 18, 2012, at 5:44 AM, LC Stanley wrote: > Hi Rob, > > Cool. She's being herself in the Morgan Town video.
