It's really a perfect album. I actually haven't listened to it in a while so I think I'll pull it out. Thanks Betsy!! Here is the link to vote for the first 20 suggestions: Tinyurl.com/7aro7rg Does anyone NOT think C&S is the Joni Mitchell album with the most universal appeal? Blue may get the best press, but I wouldn't dare play it at a party. LOC has the most familiar songs, but it's hard to listen to that yodel. FTR is obscure for its place near the height of Joni's fame. I'm not sure whether MOA is eligible, but it is pretty irresistible once you've heard it. After that, tastes diverge. WTRF is one album that seems to have broad appeal with people who don't know it's by "a folk singer" "from the 60s". What other albums by other artists are commonly loved? That's a great idea Martha. Nobody on the list will be pleased with whom portrays Joni no matter how good of an actress she may be. If Joan gets to have a say so, we might all be happy. I predict that many people on this list will complain after seeing the movie not about which actress portrayed Joni, but that Joni was given short shrift in the screenplay compared with how much screen time was devoted to the stories of Carole and Carly. You all want this story to be mostly about Joni (who almost certainly will not get a say-so), but I suspect the coverage of her story in this film will be third fiddle at best. I suggest that you do not get your hopes up too high that the portrayals of Carole and Carly will somehow fade into the background and Joni's character will be the star, though getting a bigger name like Taylor Swift to play Joni might help get Joni's character more screen time. If you made a graph and put on the Y-axis "What Joni wanted to do" and on the X-axis "what the public wanted to hear", C&S would definitely win. Not saying it's her BEST, or my favorite (although on any given day it might be), but as far as having 'the most universal appeal'...yep, that's the one. It would be difficult to come up with that in this group...I'll throw in 2 and see if anyone says "Oh no I can't stand that record"... 1. Rickie Lee Jones - debut 2. You know, i cant quite figure it out. One one hand, it can be viewed as a sort of an inebriated shit show (forgive the language) during one of her "I'm pissed off at Joni" moments. However, on the other hand, there's something sort of cool about it, and she's sort of got this Courtney Love sound to her voice (and all y'all know my soft spot for CL). But, I DO admit that, like Laura, I love Nazareth's "This Flight Tonight." Love it. Prefer it to the original, actually. Ohhh, again I talk too open and free...
