Even though the social climate dictated this or that, there are still to be had/lived/breathed some devastating effects and after effects. In recent weeks, I learned about this movement which was started in Australia and moved to BC Canada ... these women are trying to raise awareness of what it might have been like. It's pretty crazy making and there's no understanding it at all, no matter how much rationalising, no matter how much logical filter one tries to see this through. Anyway Global News in Canada has put together a little documentary/news bit about some of the women's stories. http://www.globalnews.ca/video/index.html?v=6CWL3MXVJNTkZ8YSb4vpBnOxJTXNPXog I thought some of you might find this an interesting read, as Joni has herself expressed how diffiicult this situation was for her . and other unwed mothers in Ontario (and other parts of Canada of course) , even as far as Australia. There is a rising up call for a class action law suit in fact . Pretty damned devastating, but there you have it. I didnt edit this, at all, so please forgive the grammar/etc/ anyway a pretty important subject Mags ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 May 2012 13:20:21 -0700 (PDT) From: Kevin Foehr Subject: Re: JMDL Digest V2012 #691 I don't believe there is any other flower as symbolic as the Rose. I know that most Joniphiles will be skeptical of Taylor's ability to pull off the role. But many have commented that she will bring in a new audience for Joni's work; no, Taylor did not invent an entirely new way of playing guitar, but she CAN play guitar, and will certainly be able to "fret-synch", or even learn to play in Joni's style. If Taylor is immersed in Joni's early career, I can't help but think it would be an extremely positive experience for her, which could produce benefits for the remainder of her life, which could be many many decades. Also: Taylor Swift was named after James Taylor; Ben Taylor (James' son) sounds (and could be made to look) just like James, IS an actor, and IS also the son of Carly Simon. ~Dan On Sat, May 5, 2012 at 10:24 PM, Mark wrote: > This was playing on several display model wide screen TVs in Costco today: > > > http://www.youtube.com/watch?**v=RzhAS_GnJIc > > > I've been skeptical and still am. He was deeply influenced by Joni, and I hear it in his rhythm and harmony. There are the obvious references to Joni and the song Help Me in The Ballad of Dorothy Parker, but the sampling technique is actually very similar to This Flight Tonight. Mr. McGee is the boss of the 5 and dime in Raspberry Beret, and has a General Store in Paprika Plains. Who else wears berets? These songs also share the "weather report" conveying emotion. Controversy has "*Joni*" on the back cover. I always think of Shadows and Light when Let's Go Crazy starts up. And don't forget A Case of U! Prince also wrote a song intended for Joni, but she didn't record it. One of my friends had a couple of professional encounters with Prince and found him to be very amiable. He was also wearing leggings on both occasions and a backwards sweater on one, but that's another story.
