What a brilliant thing to do. Also...I am sorry that I came off as such a curmudgeon. My perspective as a Joni fan here is probably a bit different than most due to the unique situation I am in with Morgellons. I know first hand how badly she suffers and what it's like to be completely misunderstood by our national health organizations and the medical community (my own profession) at large. But hey...I believe strongly that everything happens for a reason. Had I not gotten Morgellons...I might have never gotten involved in Joni's insightfully descriptive nature and incredible music. Actually, most of our conference WAS spent with presentations on the latest research findings. Below you will find a couple of links to recent peer reviewed publications that you will find interesting. I'm sorry if this is too far off topic for some who are only into the music. My interestes (and I think Laura's too) are both music and medicine. Appreciate the quote shared here about negativity. I agree 100% Illness does put a bit of a twist on ones life but we can still aspire to stay positive. It could always be worse. Both Joni and myself keep a positive attitude and manage to laugh a lot most of the time. So in a much more positive way of putting things. We are making progress in the Morgellons arena although it is slow. The link directly below this email is the most recent journal publication which is basically a case study of 3 patients who have Morgellons. (Yay!) Case 2 is actually yours truly. As you can see that in figure 1 B, this disease can take quite a toll. This pic was taken nearly 7 years ago and since the condition is progressive ...don't even try to visualize what I look like now. Let me just say that it ain't pretty. The press release contains a link to a previous peer reviewed journal publication: Clinical Cosmetic and Investigative Dermatology. Nov. 14, 2011 So I hope these links help to explain what IS happening in the real arena of Morgellons. It has little to do with the perceived notions of the CDC. And how about a round of chuckles on the plosone.org publication? Our ongoing research is limited only by funding . Someday I would love to see a Joni fest as a benefit for Morgellons disease research. This is the way to get Joni back on tour! We're keeping it positive and will continue to do just that. Thanks for your positive encouragement! Cheers! Cindy OMICS Publishing Group | Full-text | Morgellons Disease: A ... Morgellons disease is an emerging multisystem illness characterized by ... EXCITING NEW DISCOVERIES IN MORGELLONS RESEARCH UNVEILED AT ANNUAL CONFERENCE AUSTIN, Texas (May 2, 2012). A multinational panel of medical and scientific professionals met on March 24 and 25, 2012 in Austin, Texas at the 5th annual Morgellons Medical Conference entitled, "Searching for the Uncommon Thread" to discuss the latest findings on Morgellons disease. Morgellons is a debilitating, systemic illness characterized by the formation of unusual fibers within the skin. In addition to slow-healing skin lesions, those afflicted by the illness also experience overwhelming fatigue, and an array of neurological deficits. Morgellons affects people of all ages and ethnic groups, worldwide. Sponsored by The Charles E. Holman Foundation (CEHF), the two-day event boasted attendees comprised of doctors, scientists, Morgellons patients and supporters. Much of this conference was dedicated to refuting the conclusions suggested by the 2011 study by Hylwa et al, of the Mayo Clinic and the January 25th, 2012 Center for Disease Control (CDC)/Kaiser Permanente Morgellons study. Highlights of the two-day event included many educational and thought provoking presentations. Canadian microbiologist, Marianne Middelveen, reported on ground-breaking research that she and prominent San Francisco-based physician, Raphael Stricker, published recently in Clinical Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology, http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3257881 . This research demonstrated similarities between Morgellons and a bovine spirochetal disease. She reported that the unusual filaments are likely composed of keratin and demonstrated photographic evidence that fibers stem from both pavement epithelial cells and hair follicles, tissues where keratinocytes are the predominant cell type. These findings conclusively debunk forever the erroneous theory that this disease is caused by delusional beliefs and that patients self-implant fibers or are intentionally mutilating themselves. A second publication related to this subject authored by Middelveen, Stricker and other collaborating researchers, is currently in-press and scheduled to be published soon. Australian Dermatologist, Peter Mayne, showed clear slides of fibers taken from some of his many Morgellons patients, noting that fibers are subdermal in origin and some originate in the hair bulb. Dr. Mayne is the first practicing dermatologist to thoroughly examine the tissue of Morgellons patients and acknowledge the disease's unique pathological characteristics. Mayne outlined differential diagnoses he considers in his Australian clinical practice. Dr. Mayne along with Randy S. Wymore, PhD., Director of Research at the Center for the Investigation of Morgellons disease, reviewed the history of the CDC's noninvolvement with Morgellons disease, and refuted the 2012 CDC/Kaiser study results. A presentation on Institutional Cognitive Dissonance by CEHF Director, Cindy Casey, RN, in collaboration with Elizabeth Rasmussen, PhD, further demonstrated the repudiation by the CDC in its lawful responsibilities towards Morgellons patients as well as to their confused and bewildered medical care providers. . CEHF Associate Director, Greg Smith, a pediatrician from GA, Dr. Amelia Withington, a Psychiatrist from PA, Ginger Savely, DNP, a recognized authority in the medical management of Morgellons disease from Washington, D.C., and Carsten Nicolaus, MD, PhD from Augsburg, Germany, an esteemed medical provider for Morgellons patients in Europe, also gave informative presentations covering a broad range of Morgellons-related topics. The Morgellons medical conference is an annual gathering in Austin, Texas of medical and scientific professionals and members of the Morgellons community. A DVD of the conference is available at the website, www.thecehf.org. The foundation was named for Charles E. Holman, a pioneer in the fight against Morgellons disease. - ----- Original Message ----- From: "LC Stanley" To: "Cindy Casey RN" Cc: Sent: Tuesday, May 01, 2012 10:33 AM Subject: Re: JMDL Digest V2012 #651 Cindy, So what if there was no identified infective source? Lack of identification doesn't rule out existence of an infective source. And, regardless of infective source or not, the finding of abnormal fibers is factual. It seems like effort toward solving the mystery of the fibers would be more worthwhile than giving any attention at all to research that offers no solution. I like the turn it into something positive attitude of this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7Of_2ykZpQ&feature=youtube_gdata_player Love, Laura On Apr 30, 2012, at 3:28 PM, "Cindy Casey RN" wrote: > Moni, > > With all due respect, I do hope that you are NOT considering the CDC > report as acceptable?
