"Hello! Aside from Norman Seef and Joel Bernstein, do you know of any other photographers who would have been taking a lot of photos of Joni during the Jaco Pastorius years? We are doing the official documentary film on Jaco and while we have some of the family's intimate snapshots of Jaco and Joni, we really want to find a deeper source. Figured who better to ask than the good people at JoniMitchell.com! Please be in touch if you have any suggestions. Thanks!" Andy Pratt (anyone remember him from the 70s?) posted two Joni videos (from Shawdows and Light) on Facebook. Guess what one of them was? Hint: If you read the Don Alias link in this post you'll know. Wild that happened. - -----Original Message----- From: onlyJMDL Digest To: onlyjoni-digest Sent: Fri, Apr 13, 2012 3:26 am Subject: onlyJMDL Digest V2012 #101 onlyJMDL Digest Friday, April 13 2012 Volume 2012 : Number 101 ========== TOPICS and authors in this Digest: - ------- Don Alias talks Joni [Les Irvin ] Re: Don Alias talks Joni ["Mark" ] - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 12 Apr 2012 09:32:16 -0600 rom: Les Irvin ubject: Don Alias talks Joni http://jonimitchell.com/library/view.cfm?id=2490 - ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Apr 2012 18:32:43 -0700 rom: "Mark" ubject: Re: Don Alias talks Joni I loved this article! Reading Don's firsthand account of the first meetings ith Mingus and the real circumstances behind those lyrics to 'Goodbye orkpie Hat' was thrilling to me. I don't remember Joni ever giving so much etail about her first meeting with Charles Mingus. Joni refers to the 56 whales in the liner notes for 'Mingus', if I remember orrectly (getting up now to go look). Back again after squinting at the cd booklet. Here's what Joni had to say bout the whales: 'Charles Mingus, a musical mystic, died in Mexico, January 5, 1979, at the ge of 56. He was cremated the next day. That same day 56 sperm whales eached themselves on the Mexican coastline and were removed by fire. These re the coincidences that thrill my imagination.' I loved the conversational tone of the writing. I might have to read that ook.
