If there's video of the first Carnegie Hall show, that would make a great DVD. Joni was in a very good mood that night. I don't think she'll ever let go of the archives though. Jim L'Hommedieu From: Sam Stone >[L]et's say, hypothetically, Joni and the company decide to launch some kind of deluxe box set for each albums (3 or 4 CDs maximum, perhaps a DVD), plus live albums and leftovers from the vault. What would you like to see? Personally, I think each album should have demos and/or outtakes. Especially MINGUS, DJRD, and HEJIRA! As for live releases, I'd certainly buy up the Second Fret Sets, a DVD of the BBC In Concert performance (based on the setlist, I don't think it would be right to release it as a bonus disc to an album). Also a CD/DVD set of MOA and the 1974 BBC show, a full show from the 1979 tour would be awesome (complete with the Persuasions' set?), and certainly the 1994 show from the Fez. So again, what do you all think? ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Mar 2012 12:35:46 +0000 From: Michael quebec Subject: Re: Leonard Cohen & Joni And if you've ever heard Joni's early unpublished song, The Wizard of Id, it's her answer to Cohen's Suzanne. Spooky or sweet, it's unfortunately the less interesting song of the two. I am actually tickled that these two brilliant Canadian artists once spent time together. I'm also amazed at Leonard's staying power, coming out with acclaimed new work and world tours so late in his carreer. And we haven't seen the last of him. Beauty abounds. Beautiful young face, beautiful hair, beautiful blouse, and most relevantly, beautiful music, lyrics, and performance. in this video she is evocative of Joni circa '71, to me. She is not at the same level of creative genius, of course, but reminiscent in some ways and quite enjoyable. Hope you enjoy. Joni talks about this same subject in her speech at the grammy's you can see/hear in this video on jm.com. You can also see the natural affection they display for each other. http://jonimitchell.com/library/video.cfm?id=287 Laura Breakfast Sample https://apps.facebook.com/qkr-free-box/sample/ Like this extract - > I still love her, and I know that she loves me too. He has now written about a 1967 appearance by both at the Mariposa Folk Festival: http://1heckofaguy.com/2012/03/18/photos-of-leonard-cohen-joni-mitchell-buffy-sainte-marie-at-the-1967-mariposa-festival/ It describes a bit about their appearances and the fact that they jointly presented a workshop on songwriting. Where is Doc Brown and his deLorean when you need him? He also provides links to photos of the Festival stored in the digital library of York University. Therein can be found some great photos of the very youthful (and happy) Joni Mitchell: http://archives.library.yorku.ca/items/browse?search=joni+mitchell&submit_search=Search Happy viewing. ------------------------------ End of onlyJMDL Digest V2012 #77 ******************************** ------- Post messages to the list by clicking here:mailto:joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:onlyjoni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe
