I have never listened to Bruce Springsteen but a friend of mine went to see him in concert a couple of years ago and all I can say is that she had a rosy flush to her cheeks for at least a week after it and was on cloud nine about the man and his music big style. I'm sure I've heard him on the radio and liked well enough what I heard. Must check him properly .My mother who was not much into popular music at all always had a kind word to say about Roy Orbison's voice though. She thought him exceptional. Yes it would be a grand thing if our Joni was as prolific as Arvo Part but I suspect his output is indeed channelled from some source way beyond even Joni's muse. Bjork does an interview with him on you tube. On Fri, Mar 9, 2012 at 5:00 PM, Happy The Man wrote: > Gerard, > > Come on Arvo Part, you can't bring Arvo Part into this discussion. In NYC (and some other cities, I dare say), the cabs are all yellow. At the time the song was written (late 60's, I believe, but I guess 1970 is possible), the "big" yellow taxis were made by Checker (that's the image I have in my head). And, were called "Checker Cabs" (and, had checkered patterns on their sides). DDT is banned as an agricultural pesticide (except in North Korea and India), and has been for many years. However, it continues to be used to control diseases spread by mosquitos and certain other insects, since it is the most effective agent by far and is critical in limiting the incidence of malaria and various other diseases in those countries most affected. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDT I have never "connected" with Bruce's music, but I agree that you have to admire his hard (and quality) work over a long period of time. Bob M's description of his concert performances is, if anything, understated. And, he is famous for his "drop-in" appearances at local venues in Asbury Park and other NJ shore points, whence he hails. I have always admired that (even if I don't agree with his politics and his related public posturing). He strikes me as a "mensch". Love him, followed his career since his second album (saw him live in Tempe in 74). Nobody has brought up The Rising (or if they did I had not notice) which was a tremendous album. If you haven't seen him in concert, he does put on a great show. Is he one of my favorites, I don't own all his albums enough said. Sometimes his influences are too transparent to me (Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Warren Zevon) and I'd rather hear the original. But he's obviously talented and a showman. I can't remember if I bought a copy or got it as a gift but somehow I have his CD We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions and I really like that. It feels like a band hanging out and having a blast. Very loose and free. - -Corey Sent from my iPad On Mar 7, 2012, at 1:53 PM, Bob.Muller@Fluor.com wrote: > Firstly, let's not label Bruce Springsteen as "pop".
