I'll be removing it next weekend. http://db.tt/0TIqB1eQ The album contains some musical pearls, as does STAS, but suffered from inferior recording quality originally and subsequent transfer to the CD format. I performed multi-stage surgery on it, using some pretty cool forensic tools and I believe have ended up with an album that is a much more engaging and enjoyable listen. The files have to be downloaded song by song unfortunately from my Dropbox public folder, even though they are in an enclosing folder; not sure why that is. They are in Apple Lossless format so no data compression is at work. You'll need iTunes installed - I don't believe Windows media player will work - and you can easily make a playlist from the songs once in iTunes to burn a CD master. happy listening... Unless its a cover using Joni's lyrics to pork pie, obviously that would count - but there's got to be dozens of covers of both of those that predate Joni doing them. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Feb 2012 09:54:05 -0800 (PST) From: Bob Muller Subject: Re: Retro Covers - Volume 62 You're right, Ken - I actually don't count the instrumental covers anymore, on the earlier volumes I WAS including them. I still count any that use Joni's lyric for obvious reasons. As for "You're So Square"...the first time I heard the song was Joni's WTRF version. I knew that she didn't write it, but like "Twisted", it became a 'Joni' song to me. Same thing with "How Do You Stop". Funny thing though, there are a couple of "You're So Square" covers that use her "toot and talk" line as opposed to the original lyric, so in essence they are TRULY covers of the Joni version. By the same token, I was very familiar with Frankie Lymon's version of "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" so I'd never consider any recording of that one in the list.
