Besides it makes little sense to move all this furniture from Canada to Hollywood, unless Joni is such a clever business woman that she figures she could get more from it in L.A. with her name associated with the sale. As far as the items themselves, it is really weird. I mean a few pieces are in good taste: the carved stool, the frame, the dresser and i do see Joni owning those, not her parents. But for most of the stuff there i really cannot imagine Joni living in the middle of it. Is this the same gifted artist and painter i know? Do i have a perception of Joni that is totally out of place with her taste in household & deco stuff? By the same token i did go before the auction to the music store in Santa Monica that was selling a bunch of Joni's guitars, same where Anita got hers. I couldn't find even 1 that got me excited as far as the instrument itself, i mean they were pretty low grade and deteriorated. I ended up buying a non-Joni guitar that day. Go figure? The household items are being sold in CA, not SK. I was thinking about when my father died. His estate was worth very little so the state of Kentucky settled the whole thing very quickly. We evacuated his apartment even before the estate was settled, but I would imagine that Joni's dad had lots of assets, if only because he had a wealthy daughter. Anyway, in my family, we all divided up everything, cleaned up the apartment, and turned in the keys within 3 days. My experience doesn't translate to Joni at all. Mostly rustic antique tables, chests, a handpainted lampshade and handpainted music stand. Some I would love to have but am sure the prices will be high so I'll just looky-loo. Pretty nice items overall and no Carnival glass or junky stuff. A few would go perfectly in Coyote Rick's Casa Alegre ;-) Kakki ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Feb 2012 17:06:23 -0800 (PST) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: Joni Estate sale It can't be much different in the US than it is here and in the UK. We had to wait for probate too. We are still awaiting the final settlement of the will of my aunt who died over two years ago. As far as the collections of stuff, my parents got rid of a lot when they got older, offering to any of us kids that wanted it, or getting rid of it to Good Will and so on, but there was still a lot to deal with and there are still some of their things in the condo, because my stepmother still lives there. I'm actually trying to get rid of a lot of junk all along and asking the kids what (if anything) of mine they want when I die. Of course, Matt wants all the musical instruments! >________________________________ > From: Anita >To: Lama (Jim L*Hommedieu) >Cc: JMDL >Sent: Thursday, February 2, 2012 6:08:20 PM >Subject: Re: Joni Estate sale > >Jim, we couldn't sell any of my Mum's stuff till probate was granted. Is it the same in the US? This estate sale stuff has me looking around here and seeing the few chosen things I have kept. What is to keep and what is to lose over the years? Windows into memories and meaning... "Who knows where the time goes?,"as the cliche question asks. Time does constantly go, and so do we. It is good to have you all to wake me up to so many things worth focussing on and remembering. I can hardly wait until the next Jonifest. It would be nice if Joni was invited. We could talk about carnival glass and Kenora. The carnival in Kenora is March 2-4 this year. Are you going to to the auction? I noticed in the photos that one of the photos shows a tag marked "Joan Klein" ( http://www.la-estatesales.com/ESCLA/Photos_2.html#170 ). For myself, I'd love the ingrained wood nesting tables or the Ethiopian wicker stool. I wish auction sites showed the final selling prices for their sales so I can kick myself when I find out items were, in fact, affordable.
