I'd bet she even has a nice stack of potential songs waiting in the wings that could potentially be included on a future album(s) someday. I realize the logistics of her actually producing another album may be complicated but don't believe she has ever personally quit writing new words and music, whatever she may say or whether she's going to share them with us or not. I first saw those diamond snake bracelets being worn by ladies accompanying high rollers in Las Vegas in the mid-1970s - ha. I remember just staring at them and thinking they were very pretty and clever. I was just reading about them online and apparently this style of jewelry for women goes back to ancient Greece! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I couldn't find out why we have turkey but the tradition goes way back to the beginnings of both the U.S. and Canada. Lots of hits but this one looked especially good! (I assume those who are saying "don't fix it if it's not broken" are, like me, single post people.) I'm in the smallest group (Only Joni "Live"). As I'm not affected, I'm not personally going to ask for something to be done, but with that number in mind, it would be hard to argue against the change. I wouldn't want to see a mass bolt from readers. Michael F. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Nov 2011 17:27:39 -0800 (PST) From: Bob Muller Subject: Anna Begins Sounds good to me. Chuck the email subscription metaphor and go to a forum metaphor. The Cowboy Junkies and Over The Rhine have forums for the people who appreciate their music. With a forum, no one has to defend their Inbox because there are no emails. Instead, a member goes to their site, logs in, and looks at all of the available threads. If someone wants to follow threads as they unfold, they can logon over and over again, several times per day. If someone want to follow only threads about dulcimers and skip the NJC threads, they could do that too. I could logon once per day and get all of the news at once, as if it was a digest. The thing I don't like about a forum is that the threads are spread all over creation so it's hard to stay caught up. Some forums allow you to get a notification by email if a thread gets a new post. I don't know if those bands have to pay for their forums or not. All the best, Jim L'Hommedieu > Date: Wed, 23 Nov 2011 13:28:55 -0700 From: Les Irvin Welcome to the ever-so-occasional State of the JMDL Meeting. Please silence your cell phones. As the digest people know, we have been having ongoing problems with the list via our long-time provider Smoe. Smoe is free, but it also has an absentee landlord and therefore is "as is". The problems will most likely never be resolved. The list uses the "Majordomo" software system, written 17+ years ago (ancient in computer terms...) and pretty much abandoned by its creators in favor of other systems like YahooGroups. Do we need to switch to another provider? Here are 3 options as I see them: 1) Have a volunteer step forward who is willing/able to install the Majordomo software on their own server and host the list for free. 2) Switch to YahooGroups for free. Free, BUT there will NO LONGER BE A "JONI-ONLY" option as Yahoo offers no way to do this (unless someone has information I don't). 3) Find another Majordomo system to host. My research indicates a $40+/- monthly fee for this. Yikes. The current list census is as follows: 110 members of "Live" Joni 652 members of Joni-digest 44 members of Only-Joni 218 members of Only-Joni digest So, 25% of the current members - the "only" people - will be inconvenienced by switching to YahooGroups. On the other hand, most email systems (Outlook, Windows Mail, Gmail, Hotmail, etc, etc...) offer a filtering option in which one can send single NJC messages directly to the trash. Still, the Only-Joni Digest people (21% of our population) are left without a real solution. There is no easy answer to the current problem if you are among the 21%. I'll appreciate your thoughtful discussion/ideas (public and/or private) in the next week or so and will make a decision at that point. Thanks, Les> ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 26 Nov 2011 23:54:52 -0800 From: "Mark" Subject: Did Joni ever see Breakfast at Tiffany's? I just watched it. During the party sequence there's a woman (although she's no beauty) looking into a mirror laughing hysterically. A few seconds later she's crying and her eye paint's running down. Walking around the 5 and 10 looking for something to shoplift, Audrey Hepburn puts a lampshade on her head. In one scene she's sitting in a window, strumming a guitar. And in the climactic scene of the movie, there's a big yellow taxi and a lost cat. Joni would have been around 17 when the movie came out in 1961.
