Laura, Very cute. I bet Joni doesn't mow the lawn, but she seems to go grocery shopping and cook. Maybe some light gardening, too. She is (barely) a mortal, after all. Not quite a commoner, though. On a tangent, I have friends who are crew for a private jet service. They've had several musicians who have covered Joni's songs and are acquaintances of hers, and I've wondered if they might ever encounter Ms. Mitchell herself. So far I'm still three degrees of separation from her, and many people on the list can beat that. >Happened upon this cute & funny >song by David Roth on YouTube >http://www.youtube.com/>watch?v=Dpel9Zpkq8M >Laura NP Pedal Point Blues, Charles Mingus Betsy ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Sep 2011 15:26:09 +0000 From: betsyblue82@gmail.com Subject: The Last Time I Saw Richard I love the waitress "aside" in this song, and am fascinated by that character's evolution. In 1971 she sang it. In 1974 she did a funny voice. In 2002 she spoke it. In 1985, she did an old lady voice on the first line of the song and promised to sing/speak it when she is 70. Does anyone think this might actually happen? Would 70-year old Joni sound like 42-year old Joni thought she would? What would the waitress sound like? "It's gettin' on time to close." Do people in Detroit talk like that? The host of the show iterviewed Chris Burthorsen (?), who was 35 at the time, and who spearheaded the campaign to protest nuclear testing at Amchitka Island near Alaska. He claimed that this action could not have been possible without the participation of Joni Mitchell and Chilliwack, who played gratis at a fundraising concert in Vancouver (the recording of which has been avaiable for a year or so from Greenpeace and JMDL.com). Anyway, this was a nice nod to Joni's contribution to enviromental activism of those days 1971, when BYT was a fresh new addition to the culture of the day. As a bonus, they ended the radio interview with Joni's live rendition (with SOLID acoustic guitar) of BYT from that concert. Good article with Joni content on the Greenpeace website here: http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/about/history/amchitka-hunter/ You can hear the interview here and BYT, she rocked live - click on Thursday Part 2 , then move cursor to 5:20 http://www.cbc.ca/asithappens/ Michael in Quebec ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Sep 2011 16:36:27 -0700 (PDT) From: Mags Subject: Re: Does Joni Mitchell Ever Mow The Lawn? mmm methinks there was a wee tad of sexual innuendo there, "sitting on her groceries" ha!
