I had no idea when his birthday was, though. Thanks, Les, for the picture, they both look so sweet. Joni's dad looks like he is thinking he can't blow out all those candles, and Joni seems to encourage him. She looks pretty healthy to me but then again illness doesn't always show. Some of the people on the list - Catherine, Anita - have commented on old age and getting old. Catherine put it so well - the surprise when you realize that you are not young anymore, that your body does not behave as it used to. Not to mention the way you look - so strange to look into the mirror, I often wonder, is this really me? A couple of weeks ago I attended a get-together with old school mates, women I had not seen in 35 years. Some of them I would not have recognized had I met them in the street, some still had the same kind of look they always did. But all of them were ladies passed middle age! Realizing I was too, and how old I must look to them, did not come as a shock but the whole thing felt very strange. I wonder how Joni feels about getting old. Pity she does not write songs anymore... She has to be there! I was very happy to see this picture. I think she looks great, and those gorgeous hands still look like they can slap a guitar. I think he and his daughter both look quite good, considering the challenges of age and ill health. Of course, broad smiles of loving celebration can make almost anything disappear. I'll have to make a mental note to wish him the best on August 24. CC ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Jul 2011 18:54:45 +0100 From: Anita G Subject: Re: Joni sighting in Saskatoon. I have heard that there is a culture (ironically, can't remember who :~))) who don't have a word for dementia. They seem to accept simply that a person is in a certain stage of their life. Therefore, to take us as examples, Anita or Catherine would be often forgetting things, or sometimes confused, but not having something called 'dementia'. I think I would find that approach much easier to deal with. It seems more human and respectful. It's like people would be saying 'It's still Anita, but older and with some of the difficulties that ageing brings', rather than 'She's got dementia.' "In her 1970 album Ladies of the Canyon Mitchell celebrated a ew York street clarinet player in the song "For Free." My friend srael Young had a music store called the Folklore Center near he corner where the street musician played. He told me that itchell had come back to visit the clarinetist after the record ame out. When he complained that she had made thousands of dollars rom the song and he'd gotten nothing, she bought him a new clarinet. ince he was a junkie, he immediately pawned it." *************************************************** teve Dulson Costa Mesa CA AR-West (Folk Alliance Region - West) inkersown@ca.rr.com www.far-west.org - ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Jul 2011 12:01:14 -0700 rom: Lindsay Moon ubject: Graham's quote on Joni I cracked up: "Being in a relationship with Joni Mitchell is like walking into cement mixer." - Graham Nash on "Sounds" Lindsay - ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Jul 2011 22:00:09 -0600 rom: Les Irvin ubject: Joni sighting in Saskatoon. http://bit.ly/r8rsOo - ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Jul 2011 22:16:35 -0700 rom: "Mark" ubject: Re: Joni sighting in Saskatoon.
