It is both wonderful and terrifying. She is a brilliant, brilliant artist and an incredibly smart and funny and delicious woman. Think the air guitar was on Dave King's excellent Larry Carlton-esque version of 'Song for Sharon' - I know Randy's (Corry's) 'Blue Motel Room' had me jazz-snapping my fingers and smooch-dancing in my seat, and exclaiming "Wonderful!" out loud on the final chord - the people around me in the traffic jam must have wondered what I was on! best to all PaulC NP 'The Testimony of Patience Kershaw' by The Unthanks [looking forward to seeing them at The Barbican tonight - http://blip.fm/~161tci ] ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Jul 2011 12:14:44 -0400 From: Steve Dulson Subject: Another Joni mention My friend Dick Weissman has had a long and interesting career in music and music education. He formed, along with John Phillips and Scott MacKenzie, The Journeymen, Phillips pre-Mamas & Papas group. Dick is still playing banjo in the Portland area and is co-cordinating the FAR-West conference in Eugene later this year. He has published MANY books on music history and the music biz, and recently gave me a copy of his 2010 textbook Talkin' 'Bout A Revolution: Music and Social Change in America. There are several very positive references to Joni, and an interesting story I had not heard before... "In her 1970 album Ladies of the Canyon Mitchell celebrated a New York street clarinet player in the song "For Free." My friend Israel Young had a music store called the Folklore Center near the corner where the street musician played. He told me that Mitchell had come back to visit the clarinetist after the record came out. When he complained that she had made thousands of dollars from the song and he'd gotten nothing, she bought him a new clarinet. Since he was a junkie, he immediately pawned it." *************************************************** Steve Dulson Costa Mesa CA FAR-West (Folk Alliance Region - West) tinkersown@ca.rr.com www.far-west.org ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Jul 2011 12:01:14 -0700 From: Lindsay Moon Subject: Graham's quote on Joni I cracked up: "Being in a relationship with Joni Mitchell is like walking into a cement mixer." - - Graham Nash on "Sounds" Lindsay ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Jul 2011 22:00:09 -0600 From: Les Irvin Subject: Joni sighting in Saskatoon. http://bit.ly/r8rsOo ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 16 Jul 2011 22:16:35 -0700 From: "Mark" Subject: Re: Joni sighting in Saskatoon. Wow. I didn't realize Joni's dad was that near the century mark. That photo of Joni embracing him is priceless. And she looks great.
