Thanks, Michael, for responding. I agree, Jeanette Winterson has to be a fan of Joni's. Funny how I never recognized this line earlier. And I am still intrigued to find anyone unexpectedly sharing our appreciation of Joni's music and lyrics. Especially if it's someone I admire, lilke JW. I will be on the lookout for Joniquotes now when I reread her other books. On page 240 I found the following: "But where was God now, with heaven full of astronauts and the Lord on death row?" No explicit reference to Joni here but surely? Does anyone know if JW ever said anything about JM? (The book was first published in 1985 so JW is quoting JM, not the other way around). I've read this book (and much else by Winterson), but I haven't followed her closely enough to know if she's said anything about Joni. As it's not a well known line, she would have to be a bit of fan to know it, much less bother to use it. This is always one of the musical highlights of the year for me. I encourage any and all to lend your ears and give David some feedback. And not to worry Jerry, no Asian vocal 'Circle Game" covers will be played. (Sidebar - I went to a karaoke place - they call it KTV here in China - and "Circle Game" was one of the songs among the selections. It's a popular song here due to Agnes Chan's cover of it way back in the 60's.)
