The IPlayer link is: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b011ttf5/Your_Desert_Island_Discs/ But, if you can't listen to it via the IPlayer in your territory, I have a DRM-free copy which I can put up on a file storage site for you to download. Please email me if you want me to do this - It's an 80MB, 128kbps mp3 file that is around 1.5 hours in length. I was an '80s teen so those were my formative music listening days. I remember my sister performing Big Yellow Taxi when she was a teenager in a band and that was probably the first time I ever heard a Joni song. I didn't know it at the time though and my sister probably didn't either. I always associated it with Melanie's, Brand New Key as a novelty song. As a child, I remember my brother playing Pink Floyd's, Dark Side of The Moon and Wish You Were Here. My sister played Fleetwood Mac's, Rumours and Cat Steven's, Tea For The Tillerman (I still don't know what a "Tillerman" is). There were the Aussie songs like the Vietnam War protest song, Smiley by Ronnie Burns, Judgement by Chain and, Wings of An Eagle by Russell Morris. I guess the ones that really stuck in my head were the lyrically deep songs like: 1. Willow by Joan Armatrading 2. Stars by Janis Ian 3. I've Got To Have You by Carly Simon 4. Her Town Too by James Taylor (with JD Souther) 5. Vincent by Don McLean 6. Bennie and The Jets by Elton John (mainly because of its inclusion in the movie, Aloha Bobby and Rose) 7. Sara by Fleetwood Mac 8. Storms by Fleetwood Mac 9. Ventura Highway by America 10. A Horse With No Name by America 11. Summer Breeze by Seals and Crofts 12. East of Ginger Trees by Seals and Crofts 13. America by Simon and Garfunkel 14. Kathy's Song by Simon and Garfunkel 15. For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her by Simon and Garfunkel 16. Old Friends/Bookends by Simon and Garfunkel 17. Tea and Sympathy by Janis Ian 18. The Weakness In Me by Joan Armatrading 19. I Need You by Joan Armatrading 20. Hey Nineteen by Steely Dan Whole albums? 1. Rumours by Fleetwood Mac 2. Dark Side of The Moon by Pink Floyd 3. Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd 4. Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield 5. Amazing how the two Fleetwood Mac songs from 'Tusk' are the two I would pick out of that album. Especially Sara which gets to me every time I hear it. Your Simon & Garfunkel selections are also all spot on for me. Joan Armatrading as well and I was a Seals and Croft fan at one time too. I haven't chimed in on this thread because there are very few albums that I can remember specifically where I was and when it was that I first heard them. I did come up with a few: Now We Are Six - Steeleye Span The Yes Album - Yes Close to the Edge - Yes Days of Future Passed - The Moody Blues 10 Years Together - The Best of Peter Paul and Mary The Serpent's Egg - Dead Can Dance First Night - Jane Olivor Hejira - Joni Mitchell I think weed had a lot to do with my memories of the two Yes selections. I loved the recorders and the whole chess analogy in 'Your Move' and 'I Get Up, I Get Down' gave me a wonderful feeling of floating in space. Also 'Days of Future Passed' took my mind to all kinds of places. I was definitely under the influence when I heard these for the first time. I remember 'Hejira' out of all of Joni's albums because I was living in an apartment with several other people at the time and had to use headphones to listen to it when I got it home. There were other people in the place who were studying. I distinctly remember sitting with the headphones on and the album cover in my hands, reading the lyrics as Joni sang them and wondering who had broken her heart this time.
