June 22, 2011 is the 40th anniversary of BLUE. You can listen to this one hour special online. http://www.prx.org/pieces/63422-joni-mitchell-s-blue Award-winning producer Paul Ingles hosts Joni Mitchell's BLUE, a one-hour examination of one of the most heralded albums of all time by Joni Mitchell. BLUE was rated #30 on the Rolling Stone magazine 2003 list of the Top 500 Albums of All-Time. It was the highest rated album by any female musician. The magazine also called her "one of rock's most daring and uncompromising innovators." In all of her albums, but especially on BLUE, Mitchell put the experience of being a woman and being human on artful display through her blatantly honest and confessional lyrics, innovative open guitar tunings and jazz-inflected vocals. By mixing Mitchell's music from this and other Joni Mitchell albums with informed commentary from musicians, fans, music critics and archival interviews with Mitchell herself, Joni Mitchell's BLUE articulates what music lovers have found so compelling about this particular album. Special guests include music writers Ann Powers, Anthony DeCurtis, Paul Zollo, and Lydia Hutchinson. Also featured are musicians Shawn Colvin, Lucy Kaplansky, and others. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 May 2011 21:13:13 -0400 From: Ken Subject: DTY transcription Thanks, Dave & Michael, for the full transcription of my favorite Joni tune. Back when I was taking lessons, my piano teacher actually transcribed the instrumental opening for me, and I was actually able to play it at that time. I've been so neglectful in my practicing in recent years but this may inspire me to get back to the keys. Kenny B Date: Fri, 27 May 2011 07:32:24 -0700 From: Dave Blackburn Subject: new Down to You score added Dear pianists and Joni scholars, My friend, master transcriber Michael Dunn, has picked up the baton on the transcription challenge of Down to You and taken it much further than my previous submission to the database. It now includes all vocal parts, all orchestral lines and even an alternate reading of one spot where there are "mistakes" in the harmony vocals. We feel this can be considered complete and unabridged now. We invite any and all to check out the fruit of dozens of hours of careful listening to this landmark track. Special thanks to Michael and a nod of appreciation to modern transcribing software that allows for forensic examination of recorded music. http://jonimitchell.com/music/transcription.cfm?id=467 Dave ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 May 2011 19:17:46 -0700 From: David Gizara Subject: Joni Mitchell Jazz Summer Solstice Radio Special >>> Hello Jimdles, >>> My name is David Gizara and I host Thursday Night Jazz on KLCC >>> Eugene, >>> OR, 89.7 FM (NPR).
