There are typically some very interesting stories and details about these recordings and/or artists. I didn't have the time to prep this volume like I usually do so I just threw out a few random thoughts. Maybe that was a good idea and will make it more fun moving forward. Funny too about western artists in Japan - Peggy March ("I Will Follow Him") was basically a one-hit wonder in the USA but was huge internationally. I have been unable to find her recording of BSN (studio and live versions) because her LP's are so sought-after in Japan. Bob NP: The Black Crowes, "What Is Home?" He recorded 'Blue' in '98, and then 'Rainy Night House' in 2000 with Tim Hagans (trumpet). In 2005 he put out a CD with RNH on it again, and I contacted him to see if it was the same recording. He said that he had forgotten he had recorded it before! Fast forward to last year and he released an album ("Alone") with these THREE Joni's on it, and also included is a 9-minute-plus improv based on RNH. I didn't hear much of RNH in it so I didn't include it, even though I did list in our database. "Alone" is readily available if you want to seek it out. He includes a Wayne Shorter song, some originals, and a couple other covers. A review: "Copland deserves a salute for recognizing the jazz possibilities in Mitchell's incredibly rich songbook; although her albums generally fall into the folk-rock/folk-pop category, she has long had jazz influences (Mitchell, clearly, is the best singer/songwriter to recommend if one's ultimate goal is to get Joan Baez or Sarah McLachlan fans to start listening to Chris Connor, Anita O'Day, Helen Merrill, and June Christy). Copland takes his share of chances on the excellent Alone, and they pay off handsomely."
