But for Laura's purposes, they're not a bad way to think about introducing someone to the spectrum of Joni's sound. We're in final rehearsals for Grey Gardens and open Friday night so I haven't had a spare moment at the house to do anything. Look for that link to happen Friday. And those of you who are friends with me on FB can see a couple of pics from last night - - me in full Major Bouvier/Norman Vincent Peale mode. And I am planning a new volume for March, but if all goes as planned job-wise I'm on my way to Beijing China for a 4-month assignment and I won't have access to my library/programs to do much about releasing any new or old volumes. Will try to catch up when I return in June/July. Any JMDLer's in Beijing?? In other covers news, I love the repeaters - artists who love to cover Joni songs and have at least one pretty much every time they put out a release. This week quite a few of these were announced. Emely Anne from Patti P's corner of the world put out a new CD and this time 'round she includes covers of Coyote and Hejira. She had released All I Want on her last record. William Gamble, who covered Cactus Tree on his last album, tackles the challenging Down To You on his latest (Big Yay!) And finally, Ian Shaw, who recorded a whole CD's worth of Joni covers, will be adding Be Cool to his upcoming March release. Haven't hit the 3,500 mark yet but am knocking at the door! Just realized we've been sending these posts marked njc and it's definitely jc, so I took off the njc. I wonder if Joni was referring to something Saskatchewanian, or if it related more to the time she wrote the song? Maybe something she listened to on her hejira across the US, for example. - ----- Original Message ---- > From: Richard Flynn > To: Catherine McKay ; Robert Procyk ; >joni@smoe.org > Sent: Thu, February 17, 2011 2:51:49 PM > Subject: Re: sign off prayer (njc) > > But what is Breakfast Barney? > Sent via DROID on Verizon Wireless > > -----Original message----- > From: Catherine McKay > To: Robert Procyk , joni@smoe.org > Sent: Thu, Feb 17, 2011 19:47:42 GMT+00:00 > Subject: Re: sign off prayer (njc) > > That's what I remember too from when I was a kid growing up in the Ottawa > Valley, where we had only ONE TV station. Just like a lot of us, whose kids or friends sign us up and show us the ropes, and then we find ourselves liking and using this thing that we were sure we'd have no use for.
