My son noticed it too. That is just a great show (even when they're not making Joni references...) Bob NP: Catherine Hickman, "Both Sides Now" ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Jan 2011 16:24:55 -0500 From: anon anon Subject: Patti Smith I want to recommend Patti Smith's memoir which recently won the National book award,: "Just kids", which was a very facsinating, insightful, well written account, Imo, of Patti and Robert Mapplethorpe's "pre fame" years(the book mainly covers the years from 1967-1975)... It talks a lot about their years in NYC during the late 60's and early to mid 70's, staying at the Chelsea Hotel where they met Janis Joplin, Alan Ginsburg, Bobby Neuwirth, William Burroughs and so on... How Patti worked in various book stores in Manhattan, went with Mapplethorpe to "Max's kansas city" club, how Patti gradually went from being a poet to being a rock star... Patti is one of my favorite singers and arists... Like Joni, she is incredibly talented, Imo... I had the pleasure of seeing Patti perform in concert twice at the end of 2009, and I went to her book signing as well early in 2010... Now I'm reading the book "Patti Smith's Horses and the remaking of Rock and Roll" by Mark Peytress, which is interesting , in it's way, though not as majestic as Patti;'s own book... the last 2 years Patti has been in the spotlight quite a bit... She is interviewed quite often on tv and in magazines... good for her! I'm happy that she is in the spotlight, she deserves it, imo, unlike so many of todays's musicians who don't have 10% of Patti's talent, Imo... ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Jan 2011 21:56:06 +0000 (GMT) From: Lieve Reckers Subject: Re: Furry Sings The Blues by Daphne Ashbrook Wow Bob, you're right, yes we did have to hear this, it's great! (Well any message that addresses me as "hippy", I have to obey anyway!) Any more information you want to give us about this singer? And I guess this song hasn't been covered too many times, has it? I love this song already, and it's a nice interpretation. Where / how did you find Daphne? Do you know who is doing the instrumentation?
