Mark and Cat, both your emails have removed the romantic notions
(think the cover of Hejira) I have about snow! However, lovely to hear
about it. Snow forts sound just up my street! If we get any more snow
I shall make one and pelt all the kids passing by.

One wonderful thing happened in our garden when we had snow before
Christmas (unheard of for years in the UK) was that we had 6 waxwings
visit our rowan tree. They hang out normally in Siberia and everyone
was amazed that we had them here. They were beautiful. It made the
national bird watching news here!

I would NOT take that bet, Bob - I'm on your side. ONB is definitely an 
obscure Joni song, but given the depth of Joni in the film, I wouldn't be 
surprised if it wasn't the source for that particular twist in the film.

Hi Jerome. As I mentioned last week, I bought a Philips CD burner over 10 
years ago so that I could convert tapes (Laura Nyro, Buckingham-Nicks, 
Marc Jordan, and Joni tape trees among others) to CD. I still have a 
couple tapes that I never converted (how many '83 shows does one need on 
CD, really? I've got about 20 or so.) I don't have it set up as an "easy 
set of files to access", however. Perhaps some of the JMDLer's who have 
put this material on Dropbox or use torrents (I do neither) can assist.

Yes we did - of course since then Ms. Parton has released her own take on 
BSN with Rhonda Vincent & Judy Collins (buried in the mix unfortunately).

I lurk on the Joni list and read your post about Passion Play. Perhaps you
already know that Joni performed Passion Play at one point before she had
written words for the song. Here's a write up from the JoniMitchell.com
website. I remember seeing a video of that performance, I can't locate it now,
but it may still be kicking around somewhere.

"Jony Mitchell: L'impegno, l'amore" is the title of the Italian TV broadcast
of Joni's mini-concert at 1988's San Remo Song Fest where she received a
songwriting award. ....But the real treat, the one that ends the show, is a
"work in progress" -- a song that would eventually become one of her most
elliptical and enigmatic song-poems: Passion Play. Just guitar chords and
Italian-sounding syllables: "bom de dom dom day . . . bella dom dom day" with
a few words: "It'll take time, but time brings changes." Peaceful, almost
meditative -- this kind of committed singing you can't fake.

This was the second (and last) Joni's appearance in Italy after 1983 tour. She
was prized with the Premio Tenco, and performed a solo set of about thirty
minutes. She was cold and throat ill, but played an incredible set, with one
of the early (or maybe the first) live performance of "Night Ride home", and a
building up "Passion Play" with no words.
